    • Zomato was started as foodiebay.com by Deepinder Goyal in July 2008. It provides information on home delivery, dine-out, cafés and nightlife. They cover all eateries ranging from a 5 star hotel to a roadside dhaba. It started with a list of 1200 restaurants in Delhi and NCR, In November 2010 Foodiebay.com name changed to Zomato.com to avoid confusion with ebay.com. Till September 2012 Zomato expanded across India as well as other parts of world like UAE, Sri Lanka, Qatar, United Kingdom, South Africa covering 1,19,500 restaurants. Zomato does not charge for basic listings but advertising is chargeable. Banner ads by restaurants and event management companies are chargeable. It also has fixed revenue sharing tie ups with restaurants. Competitors of Zomato are Burrp.com (India), Zagat.com and Justreat.com (London) and Yelp.com (U.S.)
    • Snapdeal is an online retail website started by Kunal Bahl, a Wharton graduate and Rohit Bansal, an alumnus of IIT Delhi in 2010. It is an online marketplace, featuring a wide assortment of products across categories like Electronics, Fashion accessories, Apparel; and services like Restaurants & Spas. It operates as an online marketplace, offering products from more than 50,000 merchants or brands. Snapdeal earns its revenues by buying goods in wholesale for lesser price and selling them online in retail. It makes money by letting other people sell their products through advertisements. These advertisements could drive them profit besides of the percentage they obtain from the sellers or products that were posted to the site. It also earning by acquisitions (Grabbon.com, esportsbuy.com) The Competitors of Snapdeal are Flipkart.com.
    • Meritnation is an educational website launched by Pavan Chauhan, an alumnus of IIM Bangalore in 2007. It gives guidance in studies and also clears the concepts. The areas where the schools are of lower standard and tutors can't be afforded, meritnation has proven to be a boon for the students. It has many interesting features like Ask and Answer, Friends Zone, Brain Teasers etc. It provides multimedia tutorials, interactive exercises, assessment tools and exam help for school children and serves across seven countries (India, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain). Meritnation has raised INR 30 crore from Info Edge, which runs the job search engine site Naukri.com. It also runs advertisements on its site to raise money. Competitors of Meritnation are tutorvista.com, studymode.com and extramarks.com which work on similar concept as that of meritnation.com.
    • JustDial is an Indian company providing local search services over the Phone, Web, Mobile and SMS founded by V.V.S. Mani. Users are required to call a common number and simply tell the human operator what service they are looking for. Texts and email alerts are then sent to users listing the best options around them. Justdial makes money by charging the Company cone-time registration fee of INR 5,000 and an annual fee of INR 1,000 from the reseller. The registration fee is recognized when the contract with the reseller is finalized and the annual fee is recognized. The Major competitors of Justdial are Sulekha.com, AskLaila.com, Zatse.com and Askme.com
    • WordPress is a free and open source blogging tool and a content-management system (CMS) based on PHP and MySQL, which runs on a web hosting service. It is founded by Matt Mullenweg and Mike Little. WordPress also features integrated link management; a search engine–friendly, clean permalink structure; the ability to assign nested, multiple categories to articles; and support for tagging of posts and articles. Wordpress makes money through web hosting ( pricing for WordPress VIP Hosting starts at $15,000 per month), Google Adsense, VideoPress. The Competitors of Wordpress are Hubspot, Joomla, Druple and Blogger.

    • Pinterest was founded by Ben Silbermann, Paul Sciarra and Evan Sharp. It is a pinboard-style photo-sharing website that allows users to upload, save, sort and manage theme-based image collections such as events, interests and hobbies, known as pins, and other media content (e.g. videos) through collections known as pinboards. Users can browse other pinboards for images, "re-pin" images to their own pinboards, or "like" photos. Pinterest generates revenue through branded pins, branded campaign, outbound links, highlighted pins (small sticker affixed to their post), hidden affiliated links. Competitors of Pinterest are Dribble.com, Gentlemint.com, Postwire.com and Designspiration.com From social-media point of view, facebook is a considerable competition to pinterest.

    • Reddit was founded by Steve Huffman and Alexis Ohanian in 2005. It is a social news and entertainment website where registered users submit content in the form of either a link or a text post. Other users then vote the submission "up" or "down", which is used to rank the post and determine its position on the site’s pages and front page. Content entries are organized by areas of interest called "subreddits". It’s users are often referred to as “Redditors”. Reddit makes money through advertising, sponsored links (which are also a kind of advertising), and through the sale of Reddit Gold accounts which carry Reddit gold to get access to exclusive stuff. Competitors of Reddit are BuzzFeed which combines technology platform for detecting viral contents and Digg which is a news aggregator aiming to select stories specifically for internet audience such as science, trending political issues, and viral internet issues.
    • GoDaddy was founded as Jomax Technologies by Bob Parson in 1997. However in 1999, its name changed to Godaddy to make it easy to remember. It provides services likes Domain name and web hosting registration, Domain name transfer, Website building and it also work as sales and tech support provider to clients. It makes money by charging fees ranging from INR 200 to INR 600 per year for domain name registration and charges money for website building and hosting. The competitors of GoDaddy are Networksolutions, Bluehost,Dreamhost and Enom.
    • CONCLUSION All the websites discussed have their unique style of working. They provide a variety of services and cater to a large number of end users. They also face a lot of competition and in the end, it is the final end users i.e. “Netizens” who are the winners. Thank You!
