1. Technology Action Plan
In recent work and research, I have learned that Northside Independent School District (NISD) has made significant progress in the area of technology. However, there are still areas that need improvement. I learned of NISD’s Long Range plan for technology during this class. This plan specifically lays out how NISD plans to use technology to ensure our students are ready for the 21st century. NISD’s Long Range Plan for technology addresses “technological and human infrastructures that maximize the purposeful use of technology to achieve academic, personal, and organizational excellence.” (NISD 2010). Our district and CIP has also set forth goals that will ensure that all students demonstrate relevant information and technology competencies necessary for digital-age literacy, infuse appropriate instructional technologies throughout the curriculum to engage students, differentiate instruction, and strengthen learning and achievement. Our CIP outlines ways to implement and support research-based, integrated technology systems and solutions that aid in decision-making and fulfilling instructional requirements. Both the district and schools plan have measures to ensure access to reliable and well-supported technology and network systems to meet current and emerging needs to stay aligned with the Texas Long Range Plan for Technology. These items were identified by a needs assessment within the district plan and identified the use of approximately 82 million dollars to meet the needs of our students in integrating our technology plan.
This class provided me with the opportunity to review the STaR chart data for the first time. I am familiar with the STaR chart and have completed the survey, however, our faculty has never seen the data from it or explained how it was used in the rating of our campus. I think that educating our faculty about STaR chart is the first step the district reaching any technology goals. In was reviewing the STaR chart data for my campus, I learned that we are at developing tech level for both teaching and learning and educator prep and development. I believe that these areas are related and it does not surprise me that both of these areas are in need of improvement. We are in need of direct technology professional development that deals directly with our curriculum and content areas. In reviewing the NISD Improvement Plan goals, data from the STAR chart I know that our campus is in need of professional development related to technology. I feel that teachers need more information and training on integrating technology into lessons, and our campus needs to be trained on how to access the STAR chart data as well as what that data is used.
Integration of Technology Action PlanGoal: To infuse appropriate instructional technologies throughout the curriculum to engage students in a meaningful learning experience.ActionPerson(s) ResponsibleDescription of ActivityTimeline1. Review and evaluate STaR chart dataPrincipalCITThe STAR chart data will be explained and shared with the campus. The CIT will share strategies to increase these scores as well as take input from teachers. He will also explain the STaR chart in detail and explain why this data is so important to our campus and students.August- faculty meetingThis data will be shared at the beginning of the year as well as discussed frequently in team PLCs.2. Review NISD’s Long Range Plan for technologyPrincipalCITTeachers will learn how and where to access NISD’s Long Range Plan for Technology. They will review the goals and objectives as well as reflect on how they are ensuring that NISD is on track to meet these goals.September 2011Teachers will learn about this during the first staff development day.3. Planning meeting during PLC timeCITAdministratorsPLC GroupsThe instructional technologist will meet with teachers to create a way to document technology in lesson plans and to ensure they are using all forms of technology available in our Curriculum Management System (CMS). He will provide information and resources to help teachers integrate technology into their curriculum and instruction. He will also help grade levels create a list of available resources online and on campus and ensure that all teachers have access to these resources and will help teachers manage all the resources.OngoingOnce a month during PLC meetings.4. Introduction to BlogsCITBlogs are an easy and fun way to infuse technology into the classroom. As educators, we need model for our students the use of technology. Teachers will learn how to setup blogs for their classroom by using one for their professional development reflections. Teachers will be expected to update their blogs once a month with a short reflection of their teaching and learning that month. Teachers will review these blogs during PLC time and will continue to discuss the benefits of blogging with their students. Teachers are encouraged to use blogs in the classroom but are required to use their own blog for their thoughts and information learned.Introduction to Blogs will be in August 2011.Teachers will update blogs once a month.
Integration of Technology Action Plan Evaluation
Goal: To infuse appropriate instructional technologies throughout the curriculum to engage students in a meaningful learning experience.
ActionDescription of ActivityEvaluation1.
