Wicks Tech Plan

Rationale <ul><li>Students will be ready for the workforce upon graduation. </li></ul><ul><li>Teachers will have clear expectations and direction for integrating technology. </li></ul><ul><li>Administrators will be proactive in securing the necessary new technology and method for updating/maintaining current technology. </li></ul>A technology plan will be created to help our district set clear goals and objectives to ensure our students will be ready for the changing 21 st century when they graduate from high school.

All team members will be placed in an email group, and a system of collaborative networking will be utilized to help members share ideas and input.

Process Description <ul><li>Assessment – Research current status and needs </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Outline the current status of technology in the district, identify what support systems are needed, and teacher training </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Budgets and timelines will be outlined. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Formulation – Create detailed plan </li></ul><ul><ul><li>After the board approves the projects a more detailed plan is developed. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Saves time by only developing fully the approved projects. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Budgets are finalized. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Implementation – Put the plan into action. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Takes the plans developed during formulation and begins to implement. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Criteria from the formulation stage is used to ensure the plan is completed. </li></ul></ul>The model we will follow to develop our new technology plan is the Technology Maturity Model.
  5. 5. Vision Statement This technology plan will be a road map to providing our students with a quality education who will be prepared for college and the 21 st century workforce. Professional development opportunities will be abundant as it is key to the successful integration of technology into classroom curriculum. Another important part of a successful technology program is tech support, so there will be a focus on fast and friendly tech support.

Plan Goals/Objectives <ul><li>Provide Professional Development – mini workshops, just-in-time trainings offered at individual schools, school improvement day workshops for teachers to choose what they need to learn more about, grade level meetings/training. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Hire a teacher/administrator to oversee the professional development of the district. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Administrators will receive training with their staff as it as been proven to help them be more supportive of their staff’s attempts to integrate technology. </li></ul><ul><li>5 network computers per classroom with furniture and room for more than one student to work at each station at a time. </li></ul><ul><li>1 teacher computer teaching station – sound system, TV connection, DVD, document camera, projector and a Smartboard. </li></ul><ul><li>Tech support will be quick and friendly. </li></ul><ul><li>Tech support will be available for both software and hardware. </li></ul><ul><li>Computers will be on a 5 year rotation schedule. Beginning with 30 new computers to each building this first year. </li></ul>

Needs Assessment <ul><li>Teacher needs – Survey teachers to find out what training they need to be successful in integrating technology into their curriculum. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Find out what hardware/software teachers currently use and what they need to ensure students will reach the goal of being ready for the 21 st Century workforce. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Network survey to identify number of drops per building, do we have an acceptable use policy in place, what method of communicating between administrators, teachers, students, and parents is in place? </li></ul><ul><li>Technology support – What can we do to ensure teachers/students have technology that is working when they need it? Is tech support available when teachers are working to answer questions about software and hardware concerns. </li></ul>
  8. 8. Staff Development <ul><li>Identify teachers at each building to be building level technology support and technology integration trainers. (Just-in-Time trainers.) </li></ul><ul><li>Provide workshops with follow-up support throughout the year. </li></ul><ul><li>Create workshops based on Kimberley Ketterer’s Professional Development Menu. </li></ul><ul><li>Offer hand’s-on-trainings during the local October conference days. </li></ul><ul><li>Use school improvement days throughout the year to focus on the importance of integrating technology into curriculum to help students be prepared for the 21 st Century workforce. </li></ul><ul><li>Many teachers struggle at integrating technology because of classroom management while students are using technology, therefore find teachers who are successful to share their strategies. </li></ul>Professional development has been proven to be the key to successful technology integration into classroom curriculum.
  9. 9. Evaluation/Research <ul><li>Did lab use increase for more than a writing lab? Lab tech will keep track of who is using the lab and what activities they are using it for. </li></ul><ul><li>Are more teachers using technology? Create a way to track. </li></ul><ul><li>Action research – schools will fill out a survey similar to the Learning With Technology Profile Tool to help guide our next steps. </li></ul><ul><li>Teachers will take the Technology Integration Phases survey at the beginning of the year and again in April. </li></ul><ul><li>Teachers will evaluate the workshops they attend. </li></ul><ul><li>Evaluate technology support response time and helpfulness of the staff. </li></ul>

Timeline <ul><li>Form a Planning Team of many different stakeholders who will work together over the next few months. </li></ul><ul><li>Planning team will develop vision statement. </li></ul><ul><li>Seek feedback from multiply stakeholders throughout the process. </li></ul><ul><li>Assess current status and develop a basic technology plan. </li></ul><ul><li>Formulate technology plan, create detailed plan. </li></ul><ul><li>Implement technology plan. </li></ul><ul><li>Continue to assess process of technology plan, tweak as needed. </li></ul>
