In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? Oscar Feiven The top screen shot is of my own teaser trailer and the one below is from a teaser that relates to my own.
2. Here you can see one of the inter title screens I included in my trailer. The inter-titles were very useful as they helped narrate and explain the plot. You can see below a still from the trailer REC2. The trailer to uses inter-titles to explain and give the audience help understanding the story. The inter-titles I found really helped separate the audience which is why it was important that they were positioned towards the start of the trailer, like they both are. Having the inter-titles has allowed me to closely follow the codes and conventions of most horror teasers and I chose not to challenge the idea as I found it was an important part of the trailer.
3. Here you can see some still of the actual filming. I have taken two similar shots (a swat member moving up stairs) Both the shots have some very iconographic objects such as the gun and the swat props etc. Both of these symbolise violence and danger which is a convention in a horror trailer. Both the shots are also quite dark, with low key lighting but quite high contrasts, again this is found frequently in horror trailers. I did not wish to challenge this convention as it was vitally important as it allows the audience to immediately realise that the trailer is a horror.
4. Here is another still, you can see that the trailers both include dates. (both being October). I thought it was important to include the date as it gave the audience an indication to when the full feature will be released. In almost all of the horror teasers I viewed, there was a date in all of them, which clearly shows that my trailer is following a convention and a code. Looking at the way the text is presented, both have a background colour just below the text which I found important to add otherwise the still was too plain.
5. Here you can see the 'zombies' attacking. Zombies or infected people have been featured a lot in recent horror films which made my film slightly more modern rather than following ideas from the past. You can see that both the zombies attack the camera itself. I wanted to include this as it dramatised the trailer and as this was the first you see of the zombie I thought it was necessary to include it. I have also found, that almost all horrors have action and having the zombie attack allows my trailer to follow that code.
6. Here you can see the title screen. I positioned my title screen at the very end of the trailer, however looking at existing horror trailers, the title screen is positioned 2 or 3 clips towards the end. I chose to break this convention as I wanted the audience to be left with the name of the film, so that it may have been more memorable. Looking at the design of the stills, the font is not to dissimilar, an easy to read standard font. Both of the titles also have a glow effect to them, which both symbolise cameras or TV screens. I wanted to follow the title shown here as my film was biased around hand held cameras.
