Mikel Laboa was an important Basque singer born in 1934 in Pasaia, Basque Country. He studied medicine and psychiatry but became involved in Basque music in the 1960s along with other Basque artists. Considered the patriarch of Basque music, his traditional music influenced younger generations and was honored in a 1991 tribute album. His album "Bat-Hiru" was voted the greatest Basque album in history by a local newspaper's readers.
