TREND USE OF SOCIAL MEDIA BY EXTRIMITS
1. Increasingly exploiting the networks to infuse radical
ideology through graphic videos, images and messages.
2. Lates finding shows that 50% of the top ten videos on
social media are hailing individuals as martyrs
2. 3. A further 30% contain footage of suicide bombings which
were use to explore the support base for political violence
amongst the online audience.
4. ISIS postings on Twitter has ramped up during early
offensive and the posting were tweeted and re-tweeted
almost 40.000 a day.
EXTRIMIST USE OF SOCIAL MEDIA:
1. As an instrument to share best practices (such as
instructions for bomb making), coordinate attacks, expand
the reach of their propaganda to a global audience, recruit
new members, communicate with international supporters
and ethnic diasporas, solicit donations, and fostering
public awareness and sympathy.
2. As a tool coordinate secondary attack after an initial attack
to kill and injure first responders by issuing calls for
assistance to an area, or notifying officials of a false hazard
or threat that requires a response.
3. As a powerful tool for facilitating recruitment, reaching
global audiences, linking with other extremist groups, and
spreading hate materials that help to persuade others to
violence and terrorism.
4. To spread propaganda images of beautiful landscapes and
happy camaraderie designed to lure Westerners to join
Islamic State and to spread fear by distributing violence
images and videos such as beheading of James Foley
5. To disseminate propaganda and radical videos, building
public relation with public as well as tool to distribute their
ideas of political changes.
3. 1. Brought huge impact on public psychology, social, and
political views.
2. Might create more lone wolf radicalism, jihadist, or
terrorist within societies
3. Caused massive impact on many government policies
across the world; Government have to allocate resources
(fund, military, weapon, technology, intelligence, etc) to
combat radicalism.
CONCLUSION:
1. All government around the world have to take concrete
actions to combat radicalism in online sphere especially
social media sites.
2. All government should establish new strategy and
technology to combat online radicalism such as person-
targeting, group targeting, and organization targeting.
3. Societies need to be informed and educated
