1. Case Studies
The Client:
American Augers is an internationally known manufacturer of
horizontal and vertical directional boring machines. Their marketing
director contracted us in the summer of 2007 to produce a sales
video for their Horizontal Boring Drill line.
The Situation:
After meeting with them, it was decided that they wanted us to do
something a bit unusual: create a dual-purpose video, promoting
the product line and accessories and also offering limited, step-by-
step instructions on operating the drilling machines.
The Strategy:
After meeting with them and getting script approval, we sent a 4-
person camera crew to American Auger’s world headquarters and
manufacturing plant in West Salem, Ohio. There, we taped a mock
dig with the drilling machine. The crew spent 4 days on location,
shooting footage of the mock dig, as well as footage of the
equipment and accessories, facilities and interviews and
testimonials with staff members and customers. Throughout the
whole process of developing the video, we stayed in close contact
with the marketing director, as well as the engineers involved with
development of the products, to ensure accuracy of the content of
the video.
The Result:
The final video was produced in a DVD format, segmented into
several chapters. The client was extremely pleased with the end
result, having sold one of the $300,000 boring machines within two
months, after showing the video to a potential client. Shortly
afterward, we were contracted for a series of videos, promoting a
brand new product line of Vertical Directional Drilling Rigs. These
videos, produced for trade shows and for customers, were
videotaped on location at the American Augers Plant in West

So far, Media Magic has completed a total of three versions of
the 8-minute drilling rig video. According to the marketing director,
all videos have been hits at trade shows, this year, in Houston.
