Ashtabula City Solicitor Michael Franklin to Discuss False Statements Regarding
Illegal Activities at the La Cafe Nightclub, Delivered by Tom Simon, During
Candidates Night Debate, To Be Televised for the first time Thursday Night
Ashtabula, OH - (October 18, 2011) Ashtabula City Solicitor Michael Franklin will hold a 3:00
pm press conference, Wednesday, October 19, 2011, at the meeting room B of the Harbor-Topky
Memorial Library, 1633 Walnut Blvd, Ashtabula, OH. Franklin will show the segment of this
month’s Candidate’s Night event featuring himself and former Ashtabula City Solicitor Tom
Simon. He will then present documentation refuting Simon’s statement given that night, in regard
to criminal activity at the LA Café, that “There were no problems”, during the period of time
when Simon owned the bar and held the office of City Solicitor. He will also present
documentation on drug violations at Simon’s Dry Dock Bar, occurring while under his operation
and also during Simon’s tenure as City Solicitor. The City Solicitor’s Race segment of Candidates
Night premieres, Thursday, October 20, 2011, at 7pm, on Kent State University-Ashtabula’s cable
access channel on Time Warner Cable. It repeats October 24, 28, November 1 and 5.
Franklin will also present documentation and discuss the issue of Simon coming clean with the
voters of Ashtabula about the status of his license to practice law in the state of Ohio. Even
though he is running for City Solicitor, Simon is currently on a one-year probation, after receiving
a stayed suspension of his law license, earlier this year, from the Ohio Supreme Court Disciplinary
Counsel. The probationary period will not be over until February of 2012, and is conditional upon
Simon obeying the counsel’s orders. City charter demands the City Solicitor have a valid law
license, while holding office. Franklin will also present court documentation on several lawsuits
filed against Simon by his clients for alleged negligence and misconduct as an attorney.
