2. Mei-Ling Chen
I am an energetic and motivated person focused on integrity, quality and honesty.
I have 5 years experience in the product design field working with CAD programs such as Solidworks and ba-
sic AutoCAD backed by 4 years working with Solidworks throughout my studies. I also have broad experience
working with CNC machines, rapid prototyping, and plastic moulding.
I have a high level of hand drawing and rendering skills, pen and marker skills through to Photoshop and
CAD rendering techniques. I have worked extensively in graphic design applications such as Photoshop, Il-
lustrator and InDesign to create high quality presentation boards for presentation to clients.
Working with plastics, sheet metal, moulding, wood and etc. are all part of my design repertoire showcased
in professional undertakings such as product design, Point of Purchase design, interior design, shop fit out,
stainless steel fabrication, sculpture and furniture design. I have experience that can blend conceptual work
with practical manufacturing technology and process. I am familiar with the demands of both low volume and
high volume manufacturing requirements.
For the past 12 months I have been operating as a freelance designer under my company DesignFilter (www.
designfilter.co.nz), providing design and consultancy services. Every step of the design lifecycle was under-
taken personally, from initial consultancy, design brief, development and presentation, through to production.
In previous roles I have been a key member of product design teams working on such tasks as creative de-
sign, mechanical drawings, prototyping, and creating assembly instructions. I was involved every step of the
way from concept to production and gained a real sense of accomplishment seeing my ideas come to fruition
and making sure the design was efficiently produced.
My design ranges from the very practical to the very sophisticated. I’m versatile with all product design work
therefore I can adapt easily to any working environment.
I am an enthusiastic designer who is always looking for new excitement and wants to explore the new world
to take the next step in my design career and really start to challenge myself.
