- Especially in this age of budget restrictions, we hear many people say “we can’t afford to buy books for the Nene List each year.” We wanted to take just a minute to share some funding opportunities that will help you pay for your nene books.
- This is how I paid for my Nene collection last year and also bought about 10 titles for each of our 4 th & 5 th grade classrooms. Point out that actual library budget was smallest portion. (on to next slide)
- Website that invites teachers to post projects so that donors can give money to these projects. First, you create an account at the site, follow the steps to create a project and post the project for donors to give money. The site is very user friendly and walks you step by step through the process. We have had much luck with this site—

- I found that when I displayed the on “Nene shelves” in the fiction section, the students and teachers visited it more frequently. Another librarian keyed me into displaying the Nene Books with the covers facing out—students are drawn to the covers. I also put a Nene Label on the spine so volunteers who shelve books know to put the Nene Books here.
- This is a short video clip of one of our 4 th grade teachers talking about why she values Nene and how she incorporates Nene books into her instruction.
- A few years ago I invited students to read a particular Nene Book and join me for a lunchtime book discussion. I asked them to come with ideas and I promised to bring dessert. This photo…. Discussions range in size…. Valuable insights and connections….. Need to be more organized--calendar
