3. Alone in the desert…
• Don’t leave your recruits ALONE
• Live up to the expectation
• Avoid negativity
4. A Successful Journey
• Help others!
• As a sponsor, you need to
– share your time
– share your means
– commit to your recruit
5. Why sponsor?
“You will get all you want in life if you
help enough people get what they
want”
-Zig Ziglar
6. Only 24 Hours in a Day
• My personal limit = 24 hours
• Add a recruit (24+24) = more hours and
more $$$
• Example: $.05/hr x 24 hrs = 1.20 day
• Small rewards today lead to big rewards
later
7. Do the Math
• Team of 100
– My own 24 hours + 100 recruits (24 hrs) =
2400 hours@ .05 = $120/day or $43,800/yr
• Team of 1000
– My own 24 hours + 1000 (24 hrs) = 24,000
hours@ .05 = $1200/day or $438,000/yr
8. Be a Generous Sponsor
• Teach them to replicate generosity for
their recruits
– Time
– Means
– Ideas
– Forgiveness
– Applause
9. People don’t leave a company because
of the job. They leave because of how
the company makes them feel.
10. Things to Remember
• Ask a simple yes/no question
• Await the silence
• Follow up
• Story of Elaine
11. Lead, Guide, and Walk Beside
• Don’t pass by the Elaines
• Don’t abandon them
• Lead, guide, walk beside
• They are the next chapter in your
Scentsy story
Editor's Notes
Wouldn’t you love to make money, even if you are sick, on vacation or having a tough sales month?? That is the beauty of SPONSORINGIntro: MauritaTollestrup, live in GP,AB with my hubby and 4 children; my background is in Recreation Management, so I actually went to university, to learn how to throw a great party!! Never knew those classes REALLY would be the most important for my career!
Friends told us about how amazing it was, got us excited to try something newGot ourselves ready, drove to Moab, hit the trails @ about 9a, temp was 60F (16C)10 min into the ride. Our experienced Mt biker pals were gone; just the 2 of us newbies….kept on going the best we could on our own…3hrs later temperature raised from 60F (16C) to 95F (36C) no food, out of water, suffering from sun stroke, heat exhaustion, dehydration and still 3hrs backTurned around--abt 1 1/2hr back, met some generous strangers-- they shared their water, gave us energy packs to eat, then they turned around and rode back with us a big chunk of the way just to make sure we could get safely back to our car (& AC!)
WHY? Do I share that story??BECAUSE I HATE MOUNTAIN BIKING! To be a successful sponsor in Scentsy or Direct Sales we can’t be like my friends who “recruited” us; got us excited & ready… then left us alone in the desert. We don’t want our new recruits to say “I HATE DIRECT SALES”, or “Scentsy was the worse experience ever” because their experience is so terrible they don’t want to do it again.
The Key to a being a Successful Sponsor: HELP OTHERS HAVE A SUCCESSFUL JOURNEY We need to be like that generous stranger:We need to be:Willing to share our TIMEWilling to share our MEANSCommitted to stay with our recruits to ensure they arrive at their destination successfully. EVEN WHEN INCONVENIENT WE ARE NOT JUST RECRUITERS, WE ARE SPONSORS
It is a business investmentZigziglar: You will get all you want in life if you help enough other people get what they want*eg. From post from Chuck Thompson:when I first joined I had 24hrs a day to work my business. The more I worked in that day, the more money I earned…. BUT I WAS LIMITED TO 24HRS; and limited with all the other hats/roles I fulfill--being a mom, wife, volunteer in my community, church…Then I got my first recruit:now my 24hr +her (24hrs)= 48hrs; MORE HOURS=MORE $$$I didn’t get all of her time, but a small portion of my recruits time, say $.05/hr, was more than I could earn myself (in addition to my 24hrs)Her 24hrs x .05=$1.20/day!! +my own 24hrsI know some of you are thinking “that a $1.20 not worth my time and effort”, and initially you are right. perhaps your own 24hrs-sales go down, because TEAMBUILDING does take TIME & EFFORT, but that is still $1200/yrPayoff is: BIG rewards later, vs, small rewards today.
Team of 100My own 24hrs + 100 recruits (24hrs)=2400hrs @ $0.05=$120/day or $43,800/yrTeam of 1000My own 24hrs + 1000 (24hrs)=24,000hrs @ $0.05=$1200/day or $438,000/yrSTILL BEING PAID ON MY OWN EFFORTS, but a small amount of that goes to others, we don’t pay it Scentsy does on our behalf.
HOW CAN I BE A GENEROUS SPONSOR?LEARNED: For some “generosity” is a natural skill, for others it is learned; we have to make an intentional effort to be generous & slowly develop that abundance mentality. DUPLICATE-ABLE: in everything we do we want it to be something they do it for their new recruitsGenerous with our TIME: launch, teaching training on workstation, orders, everything takes our time so we need to share it; but also we have to have boundaries so we have no TIME for ourselves.Generous with our MEANS: Passing on a party to your hostess, pass on customers to new recruit, share business supplies, sharing events…you may lose the sales today--& you may really need it; but you helped her grow her business, showing you have faith that she will succeed.Generous with our IDEAS: teach our methods, share our best practices; I have been blessed by others who are willing to share with me, not only from my upline/downlines but the “sidelines” other consultants not connected to my team who are willing to share their best of the best; FB Group, Forums…. Steven Covey calls this “Synergy”-- To put it simply, synergy means "two heads are better than one." Synergize is…teamwork, open-mindedness, and the adventure of finding new solutions to old problems Generous with our FORGIVENESS: we are human, we make mistakes; & when we do we must recognize our mistakes and rectify it: Perhaps we have been OOC; We have been offended by a Sponsor; DL; team member; FBCompare ourselves to others and start to hold a grudgeWant to do more—but haven’t and feel so guiltyWe need to let things go. Forgive others. Forgive ourselves. Move on. Not let hurts hold us back or incapacitate us so we can’t more forward. We need to see more “rainbows & unicorns”.We need to be slow to criticize and quick to assume good intentionsGenerous with our APPLAUSE: as the sponsor we need to be our new recruits best Cheerleader!! Even when we see them doing better in this business than we are. You are a team 1+1 Making them feel important
As you are talking Scentsy, or taking an order, or prepping for a party3 steps:Ask a simple Yes/No questionSomething that fits your personality, that is comfortable for you…“Would you like to sell Scentsy?”Mine: “Why don’t you just do this yourself?”AWAIT THE SILENCEExpect this. This is went they are contemplating your question. Either they are thinking “yeah, I should do this…” or “how do I get out of this one.”Follow up; if they say “YES” lets make you some money, good I’m excited to help you all the wayif they say “NO” = not right now, OK I’ll keep taking your money, but you know I’m gonna ask you again Story of Elaine:old friend& a fellow vendor, saw me at my first Tradeshow; I told her a little about Scentsy —saw me at the next and the next tradeshows & we talked about our businesses (she had a diaper biz)A yr later she joined Scentsy with someone else. She met up with me and said, “You should of told me about the Scentsy Opportunity—I’d be a year ahead of where I am now”When I called her about sharing this story with you she explained: “when I first saw you (Nov 2009) you weren’t willing to mention about the business opportunity, You’d pass me a sample, I’d smell some wax, pass me a catalog, but I felt like you held on to this pie—not willing to share….can’t believe how much things have changed.”Elaine is my BEST LESSON in sponsoring.
Don’t pass by the Elaine’s in your life and not share the blessing of joining the Scentsy Family (Fragrance, Velata, GA)When they agree to come with you on this journey, don’t leave your new recruits abandoned in the desert. Grab their hands> Lead> Guide > walk beside them…. So they are the next chapter of your SUCCESSFUL Scentsy story.
