2. SYNOPSIS
 To be young and in love has proved fatal for many
young girls and boys in the Northern part of India
(Uttrakhand,Punjab,Rajasthan,Haryana,Uttar
pradesh and Bihar) as an intolerant and bigoted
society refuses to accepts any violation of its rigid
code of decorum especially when it comes to
women.
 So many cases of honour killing has been seen till
the date,but it’s a shame for our society that no law
or bill has been passed yet.

3. WHAT IS HONOUR KILLING
 Anhonour killing is the murder of a family
members or social group, due to belief of
perpetrators that the victim has brought
dishonor upon the family or community.
 Honour
killing are directed mostly toward
women and girls ,but have been extended to
man.

4. WHERE THE PROBLEM IS
 Italy
 Jordan
 Pakistan
 Brazil
 India
 In these countries,those who kill for honour are
almost never punished.in rare ocassions that they
are brought on trail,they would only serve 3 months
in prison at the most,but would left off.

5. WHY
 For the sake of honour of the family.
 It might be time to apply a psychoanalytical
approach to honour killings and other social issues
of our times , in order to devise ways to engage
with pathalogies under community level, says
Rakesh shukla (supreme court lawyer).

6. WHEN
 It is done when people marry each other without the
concerned of the family.
 For the sake of pride.
 Intercaste marriage.
 Inter-religion marriages

7. WHO
• It is done by family members of the
victim.
• Mostly by brother of the victim.

8. CASE 1
Zarghona 15 lies in a Peshawar shelter burnt by
her father-in-law who said she had not cleaned her
husband’s clothes properly . But the fact was that
her father-in-law never accepted her.

9. CASE 2
 The killing in july 2009 of 21 year old ved pal in
singhwal village in haryana when he had
gone, accomplained by police man, to pick up his
wife sonia, has re-focused attention on the honour
killings of couples in accordance with a decision by
the khap or caste panchayat.and with the
community’s complete aproval .
 The village displayed the victim’s battered body like
a trophy at a crossing in center of the village.
 Ved pal had married sonia, who belong to same
gotra , four months earlier against the wishes of the
family.

10.  More than 1000 young people in India have been
done to death every year owing to honour killing in
india two legal experts have claimed.
 Chandigarh- based legal experts. Anil malhotra and
his brother ranjit malhotra have said that in
traditional societies honour killing are basically
justified as a sanction for dishonourable behaviour.

11. SUPREME COURT SAYS :-
 Those who kill for honour deserve death sentence.
 P.chitambaran also said that the parliament will
pass a bill against honour killing very soon.

12. UN RESOLUTION
 On october 24, 2002, at the 57th session of united
nations general assembly third committee, the UN
RESOLUTION, “ working towards the elimination
of crimes committed in the name of honour ‘’’ was
passed .
