21. Using Vélib‘
Vélib’ is a Self Service “bike hire” system available 24 hours a day,
7 days a week.Multi pick up and drop off location allows you to pick
up your bike from one service point and drop off to another.
+Collecting a bike
Collecting your bike couldn’t be easier! Just go up to any of our self
service stations :
- Identify yourself on the terminal
- Access the menu
- Choose your bike from our wide selection
SAVE TIME !
If you hold an annual Vélib’ card you can collect your bike directly
from the bike stand.
+Taking your bike back
Finished with your bike? Simply do the drop off at any of our Vélib’
Service Points and you’re done.
22. Service points
The Vélib’ Service Points are available 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
It is located 300 meters apart, consisting of terminals and stands for
fastening the bikes.
Vélib’ terminal allows you to
-Hire a bike
- Take a short term subscription using your bank card (1-day or 7-day Vélib’ Ticket)
- Find out information on how to use Vélib’ and access information regarding our services
- Consult a map for a nearby Vélib’ Service Points
- Top up your annual Vélib’ card using a bank card
The bike stands
Every Vélib’ station is equipped with roughly twenty bike stands (the
exact number has been determined depending on the location of the
Service Point and the estimated level of use).
The Bike Stands consists of :
Bike locking mechanism
Pilot light (the color of the pilot lights lets you know whether the bike is available or not)
Card Reader
SAVE TIME!
Hold an annual Vélib’ card and you can collect a bike anytime without using
the terminals. Simply swipe your card through the reader on the bike stand itself.
23. Bikes
Vélib’ has made several thousand bikes available. And your comfort
and safety are guaranteed on every one of them.
Maximum safety
-The bike lights come on as soon as you start using the bike, and the
rear light stays on for 120 seconds after the bike has stopped.
- Reflective strips on the wheels
- Front and rear brakes integrated in the wheel hubs

- Simple and rapid gear change with no risk of the bike coming out of gear
- Adjustable height saddle

A maintenance and repair service available daily at ground level guarantees
that for every trip you will borrow a bike in perfect safety condition.

Don’t forget to observe the Highway Code and abide by the rules of safe cycling.
Always remember to be considerate and be on the look out for other road users.

civil liability during a bike trip*.

Tips for Safe Cycling
- Watch out for other road users
- Don’t use pedestrian crossing
- Don’t overtake vehicles on the right (you will be on the driver’s blind spot)
- Use designated bike paths whenever possible
- Don’t get too close on park cars (doors opening)
- When traveling in groups, travel in a single file.
- Don’t go onto or cycle on the pavement
- Don’t carry passenger on your bike
- Never run a red light
- Don’t lend your bike or your Vélib’ card to others
- Don’t go the wrong way down a one-way street (except for cycle contra flows)
- Even on short stops, don’t forget to use the bike stand and the anti-theft lock provided to you.
- Always use your arm signals
- Check all safety items before setting off on your journey (lights, brakes, tires)
- Make yourself visible at night by wearing reflective clothing
- Keep to the right of the road (unless there are specific modifications)
- IT IS RECOMMENDED TO WEAR A HELMET
- Respect the rules of priority to the right.
