Iycn Brief
1. IYCN
IYCN
The Indian Youth Climate Network
The Indian Youth Climate Network (IYCN) is a coalition uniting Indian youth and Indian youth
oriented organisations who are concerned about climate change. We, as the future leaders of the
country can generate awareness and establish consensus on what role India should play in the
global debate, and how it should address domestic issues of climate justice and adaptation. It is a
monumental effort but one with immense potential.
IYCN will be used to link up youth from across the country for the cause of climate
change. With a country as large and diverse as India, establishing the necessary link-
ages is important to the formation of a holistic “Indian youth perspective” on cli-
mate change:
•
We will support each other in our projects.
•
We will unite for national campaigns.
•
We will share our stories of local climate challenges.
•
We will engage in workshops conferences; learn exchange and empower
each other.
•
We will inspire others into action.
•
We will change our future for the better.

2. IYCN
The Indian Youth Climate Network (IYCN) was
founded in March 2008. Since its inception the net-
work has seen massive growth, starting from 3 people
and today its reach spanning out to over 200,000 In-
dians across India.
In its short period
of existence, it has
generated a lot ex-
citement from youth and adults at the grassroots and is
now present in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Hi-
machal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Andhra Pradesh, Maharash-
tra, Haryana, Rajasthan, Kashmir, Delhi, West Bengal,
Uttar Pradesh and are quickly moving into other regions
of India.
IYCN

Achievements..
IYCN has also initiated and completed many projects in its short span of existence:
our first success story being the Delhi Youth Summit on Climate. We also successfully
have initiated many Campus Climate Changer groups in schools and colleges around
the country and launched the IYCN Climate Leadership training in Delhi Hi-
machal Pradesh. Most recently, we held the first Indian Youth Summit on Climate
Change. In the pipeline for this year our projects include:
1)
The Climate Solutions Road Tour from Bangalore to Delhi,
2)
Launching the Climate Leadership Program in other regions of India
3)
A Rural Energy Project
4)
National Youth Action Plan on Climate Change to be submitted to the gov-
ernment.
5)
Agents of Change program: sending an Indian Youth Delegation to the UN
Climate Conference in Poland.
6)
Participating in and supporting many upcoming grassroots initiatives across
India.
Finally IYCN has generated a lot of excitement beyond just youth and youth organi-
sations. We have gotten media attention from The Hindu, Hindustan Times, The
Deccan Chronical, the Deccan Times, NDTV, CNBC,. We’ve also seen strong sup-
port from well renowned organisations such as Lead India, Oxfam, Greenpeace, The
Climate Project India and Centre for Social Markets.
