      • Cost-Effective Marketing
      • You can make a splash for pennies on the dollar compared to traditional advertising mediums
      • More Efficient Connections
      • Blogs have automatic subscription mechanisms that save you time in staying connected to your existing clients – it’s easy!

      Defining Your Target Audience
    4. Content is KING
      • Narrow and Specific, why?
        • Consumers now search more specifically, if you don’t narrow the topic you lose the opportunity to connect with those that know exactly what they want!
      • How to choose “good” information?
        • See the previous slide on defining your target audience
      • Where can you find content?
        • Many good blogs come from content you already have: emails, PDFs, e-news, word docs. Think about turning everyday communications into blogs vs. one on one emails
      • How do you relate to your audience?
        • Put yourself in their shoes! What kind of information do they want?
      • Fresh, Relevant, Unique Content
      • Delivery of Value
        • Specialized information
        • Pass along of a great resource
        • Education / tutorials / tips
        • Timely information
        • Special offers
      • A Good Title – be specific, include your keyphrases!
      • Optimization Techniques
        • Internal Linking: Links to other relevent blog articles within your own site
        • Call to Action Linking: Links to lead capture tools on your website or blog
        • Add important keyphrases in tags and categories – only if relevant to the post!
        • Use good active link text, no “click here” or “visit my website” - use keyphrases that are important to you as active links.
        • Use Alt Tags on images and text links (mouseover text)
What Makes a Good Blog Article?
    5. How Often Should You Post?
      • What are your search visibility goals?
        • Looking to tackle page 1 for a competitive term/s?
        • Trying to establish your brand in the search engines?
      • What are your direct marketing goals?
        • Want to build a large subscribership?
        • Only serving an existing client database?
      • The MORE you put in, the MORE you get out!
      • Blogging frequency should fit your goals, 1-3x per week is healthy
    6. Do I Need a Proofreader?
      • I’m not comfortable with my writing skills – what do I do?
      • You don’t necessarily need to be a good writer to excel at blogging, but you do need to be good at providing value.
      • Hire a writer to create custom content based on provided direction
      • Hire an editor – have your VA optimize your posts
      • Do a swap with other peers for post proofing
    7. Creating Blogs, Editing?
      • It’s Easy! If you can send emails, you can blog!
    8. How Much Time Do I Devote?
      • A healthy level of business blogging is 1-3 times per week
      • Blog posts do not need to be long, they just need to deliver value.
      • The more you put in, the more you get out
      • Setting a posting discipline (on what regular days and when) from the get-go makes it easier
      • Brainstorming about your target market ensures your posts hit the right audience
      • Utilize content from things you already do – emails, e-news, Word docs, PDFs
      • Don’t add social networking until you are comfortable blogging! This is your foundation.
      • Use email marketing in conjunction with blogging!
        • Promote blog subscription signups
        • Invite commentary on specific articles
      • Spend time optimizing your posts so they hit the right audience in the search engines
      • Find other blogs having relevant conversations and leave commentary that links to a similar discussion on your blog
      • Add Social networking to your mix and hook up your blogs to auto publish links (via Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter).
      How Do I Get Readers?
    9. Is Social Networking a Gateway To Establishing Blog Presence? We would actually argue the opposite. A blog should be considered a good foundation for all your technologies. It’s like the home base. Once you’ve mastered blogging, social networking becomes easier as you can auto push your blog articles to things like Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. Blogs are great mediums to showcase video from YouTube and PDFs or Power Point presentations. They can also house mp3 files and serve as a podcast platform. Your blog makes social networking just a little easier to manage.
    10. What Happens if I Try It, Don’t Like it, and Quit? Just about the same as would happen with anything falling in this category, not much. If you start a blog and abandon it – just make sure you take it down so Google doesn’t continue to recommend it (even on the free platforms, take them down!). You don’t want people to find a site that you are not actively managing. Usually you can also get a complete ‘dump’ of the content you’ve put in to the site so you have it in case you’d like to start up again.
