1. What kind of media
institution might
distribute your
media product and
why?

2. DISTRIBUTION
WHAT IS DISTRIBUTION?
Distributing a film enables it to be viewed by an audience. the film
distributer determines the marketing strategy of the film, the release date
of the film and also who the film will be available to be viewed by. the film
is either made viewable directly to the public distributing through movie
theaters and televisions or personal home viewing, including DVD and blu
ray. film distributions are usually accompanied by film promotion for
commercial projects.
4. MAINSTREAM DISTRIBUTION COMPANIES
Mainstream distribution companies are well known and have lots of money.
This means it's easy for the film to become known and to do well. they have
the money to promote the films in big way with Tv advertisements during
prime times (friday and saturday evenings/ nights), billboards and ads on taxis
and buses in cities such as London.
These companies get given the films from the beginning at production.
5. Examples of independent distribution companies
Breaking glass pictures Strand Releasing Monterey Media
6. INDEPENDENT FILM DISTRIBUTORS
Independent film distributors get their films from film festivals, they view the
films and pick which films suit them best.
Independent film distribution in the uk is generally managed by indie
distributors such as Metrodome and Optimum releasing.

7. OUR DISTRIBUTION
Our film wouldn't fit a mainstream film
distributor as its a low budget film which
appeals to a smaller target audience.
Our film appeals to the more urban
audience which is a smaller range
meaning an independent film distributor
would fit best.
I think breaking glass pictures is a
distributor which would fit for our film
as it has distributed many other
independent thriller films.
Wrap films are a small British
targeted institution. this would be
an ideal distributor for our film
‘The Return’ as they distribute
low budget films and target
British audiences. This would be
well suited for our film as we
have british actors, it's set in
england and its low budget.
‘Dead man's shoes’ is a film which
Wrap films have distributed.
8. EXAMPLE: SHIFTY
Shifty is a thriller film which I watched when planning
our film. When shifty was being created they needed
to find a distribution company which would be
interested in their film and help promote and
advertise. Metrodome productions spent lots of
money on the promotion of the film to enable it to
become as successful as possible. Metrodome offer a
‘microwave scheme’ which entitles small british film
makers to produce a film with a budget of £100,000
within 18 days.
Metrodome productions would
also be an ideal distributor for
our film. As ours is low cost
and British. We would need the
£100,000 to enable this film to
be created and then hopefully
they would spend lots of
money on the promoting and
advertising in order for it to
become as successful as
possible.
9. AUDIENCES
Our film will mainly appeal to the UK
market as it is a British independent film.
The film also doesn't have major big well
known movie stars which means it won't
be as ‘talked about’ within the media so
it won't get as much credit and
knowledge therefore the market will be
smaller. the distribution company also
isn't a massive one which means they
don't have lots of money to work on the
advertising and promotion of the film.
10. MARKETING
When it comes to the marketing we need to think of the exhibition e.g.
cinema, the exchange which is how the films are seen e.e. online, and the
consumption in which the films are watched.
As we are an independent film our film would not be shown in bg
cinemas such as cineworld as it would cost too much, independent film
distributors have to fight a bit harder to get their film across. They might
be shown in independent cinemas such as Reigate scree, these cinemas
provide alternative movies to the big blockbuster ones shown in big well
known cinemas.
