Make Your Own Test The best way to use this method:
Study buddy
Make a test for each other
Why?
Problems will be surprises
Some one to help
How to Write the Test
Write the test a couple days before taking it
Use 3-5 problems from every section
Get problems from: homework,
online homework problems,
quizzes, book practice tests
Use more problems that are hardest
for you
Make an answer key separate from
the test
How to Carry Out the Test
Wait a couple days to take the test
(You don’t want to remember the answers!)
Act like it is the real test
Use a note card and proper calculator
Time yourself based on the amount
of class time you will have
Having Trouble With Your Test?
Means trouble with the real test!
Identify sections your having the most trouble with
Study more and use new problems to re-test yourself
Go back through your online homework questions! Questions teachers give are
most likely ones that show
up on the test!
Advantages of This Method
Easier to know what you need help on
Take it like a real test
You actually learn things while you make the test and write the answers
It is a way to see the kinds of
problems that will be on the test
Good review of all sections
Disadvantages of This Method
May be time consuming
Sometimes you may not understand the answer
Examples in the book may not be helpful enough to make test problems
Teachers Advice
Pre-calculus teacher Andy Malbouef says:
“ I’m a big believer in students TEACHING something to others to learn it better.”
Math Teacher Shelley Johnson says:
"Its a time consuming method. I don't think many students would take the time, but if the time is taken and the test is made right it would be a good method to identify strengths and weaknesses."
