TOPIC: FEATURES SIGNIFICANSE AND WAY ORGANISED SOCIAL 
SEIENCE CLASSROOM

B.ED SOCIAL SCIENCE 
LABORATORY 
For pupils learning and satisfaction of teaching, adequate convenient 
and attractive facilities must be provided by the teachers of social 
studies. The teachers should remain in charge of the maintenance of the 
social studies laboratory as it works involve student in hand on activities 
and help them participate in map making, drowning time line etc. 
Laboratory approach to teaching is connected with the following 
elements. 
· To illustrate concepts and principles the’ verification laboratory 
approach is designed. 
· To get first hand experience about the concept is followed .By 
this approach ,the student can explore idea and form of concepts 
for them 
· In laboratory approach is given to measuring ,observing 
,classifying and predicting 
A good social studies laboratory should have the following 
characteristics
· For covering all the areas of the curriculum adequate space and 
equipment must be provided 
· Flexible arrangement of equipment and facilities 
· Adequate lighting facilities 
· Proper ventilation facilities 
· Facilities of water supply in side laboratory 
· Safe and sanitary working conditions of the laboratory 
· Proper storage facilities 
· Washable floors 
· Pleasant colure of the walls of the laboratory 
· Equipment and furnishing which are easy to care for with 
minimum effort 
· Depending up on the size of the school there should be one or 
more rooms. 
· The laboratory should have flexible arrangement and movable 
furniture 
· An all purpose room for laboratory works 
· Laboratory must be well organised carefully planned 
ADVANTAGE 
· Laboratory approach of teaching is child centred 
· Students get an opportunity for learning by doining 
· In this approach ,its essay to make the students disciplined
· There is chance for skill development 
· The students learn how to develop self confidence 
In the laboratory approach to teaching ,the teachers of social 
studies should be careful about the proper management of the 
laboratory .He must pay special attention to light 
arrangements ,grouping of the students, seating and discipline 
MUSEUM 
The social studies museum plays an important role in importing instruction in social 
studies .It is a storehouse of fine collection connected with geography, anthropology, 
economics and psychology .It is places which mirror the life of the school and works 
as a source of knowledge to the student and a pride for the student and teachers of 
social studies. The materials in the social studies museum consist of coins 
,costumes ,pictures ,time chart ,art ,painting, cultural tradition etc. of a district or 
locality in which the school is situated. 
It is true that all the wealth of painting, music, industrial, tool and 
religious out look all the significant phase life that are so well illustrated in the 
important museum of a country, cannot be adequately represented in the school social 
studies museum .But an attempt must be made to put in a Varity of material to be used 
as aids which will help the imagination to picture the life that is gone, and yet at the 
sometime influence the present in a subtle, through very real manner. 
Student of social studies should be encouraged to collect and produce different 
articles to be exhibited in the museum .By this act they will fee loud of their own 
attempts in making the museum .They should be collect various type of specimens
and these should be duly classified and labelled .The social studies museum can be 
effective only of its regularly used by the student .they can be gain concert knowledge 
of social studies in interesting ways .Different discoveries of science and technology 
and geography can be best through specimens and models placed in the museum
