Savannah Biome
The Savanna biome has a wet/dry climate. They always get rain in the summer
times. During the dry season all the plants would die. Some rivers and streams would
dry up. Most of the animals migrate to find foods. In the wet season all the plants are
lush and the rivers flow freely and the animals migrate back. In West Africa rainy
seasons begin in May. It is usually cooler during the dry season by a few degrees.
Because it is in the tropical latitudes that is still hot enough. The savanna climate has a
temperature range of 68° to 86° F (20° - 30° C). In the winter, it is usually about 68° to
78° F (20° - 25° C). In the summer the temperature ranges from 78° to 86° F (25° - 30°
C). In a Savanna the temperature does not change a lot.
The Savanna is a grass plain with fewer trees. Most savannas are caused by
climatic patterns where there is a strong dry season for a large part of the year(no rain).
Few trees survive. The savanna cover one-fifth of the earth. Most of the savanna has
only 2 seasons dry and rainy.
Usually the main predators in the savanna are lions. The big animals eat small
animals but lion does eat bigger animals. The savanna itself is a landform. The savanna
is sometimes covered with mountains. In the savanna they have rocky hills too. Savanna
has a different type of soil than prairies. But most of the savanna is close to prairies.
