3. Early life
Ellie Goulding was born and raised in Lyonshall; a small village near Herefordshire.
Goulding attended the University of Kent, where she studied drama, politics and English.
Here she was exposed to electronic music and she developed her sound on the track "Wish
I Stayed" with the help of Frankmusik and Starsmith.
After two years at Kent, she was spotted by Jamie Lillywhite of Turn First Artists at a
university talent contest. She left university and Lillywhite became her manager.
Ellie Goulding then singed to Polydor Records in July 2009. Her first single ‘Under the
Sheets’ was however released through the label Neon Gold Records.
This single went to number 53 in the UK singles chart after performing live on Jools
Holland… Later and also being the supporting act for Little Boots UK tour.
Goulding released her debut album ‘Lights’ in March 2010. Before this she also Co-wrote
with Gabriella Cilmi and Diana Vickers. Not only this she sung on the rapper Tinie Tempah’s
song Wonderwoman.
4. Debut album
Ellie Gouldings debut album was titled ‘Lights’.
It was released in March 2010 which included
the popular songs ‘Starry Eyed’ which peaked
at number 4, ‘Guns and Horses’ and also ‘The
Writer’. The album reached number one at
the UK Album Chart and number six at the
Irish Album Chart. By June 2012 (2 years after
the initial release) the album has sold over
850,000 copies in the UK and 1.6 million
copies worldwide.
In November 2010 the album was re released
as ‘Bright Lights’, with six new tracks being
added.

5. Recent happenings
In 2011 Goulding was the supporting act for Katy Perry’s
California Dreams Tour, replacing Jessie J after her foot injury.
In 2012, she featured on Zedds album Clarity, singing on the
track ‘Fall into the sky’. She also features in Calvin Harris
album, singing on the song ‘I need your love’ which is also on
her album ‘Halcoyn’.
Her second album ‘Halcoyn’ was released on the 8th of
October 2012, with the lead single being ‘Anything can
happen’ released on the 21st of October.
On May 2013 Goulding announced she would embark on a
UK 7-day tour in October. The tour would begin in Sheffield
and end at the Hammersmith Apollo in London
This year (2013) Goulding has played at festivals such as Firefly
music Festival alongside Calvin Harris, Zedd and many more.
She also performed at the Charity Ball at Twickenham stadium
and appeared at the Capital FM’s Summertime Ball.
Ellie Goulding has also confirmed the re-release of her album
‘Halcoyn days’ which is a repackaged edition of the album
‘Halcoyn’ to be out on the 23rd of August 2013.
6. Achievements and Awards
Ellie Goulding sung a cover of Elton John's "Your Song“ in 2010. This
was released in conjunction with the John Lewis Christmas in 2010.
The single became Ellies’s highest-charting single to date, reaching
number two on the UK Singles Chart. The song also charted in some
European countries in early 2011.
In 2010 Goulding won ‘BBC Sound of 2010’ award and also won the
‘Critics Choice’ award at the Brits.
Not only this, in 2010 she was nominated for multiple awards, such
as ‘The best female artist’ and the ‘Best breakthrough artist’ at the
Q Awards. Aswell as this her album ‘Lights’ was nominated for Best
album and was also nominated for ‘Best Newcomer’ at the Virgin
Media Music Awards.
In 2011 Goulding won ‘Pandora newcomer of the year’ at the
Glamour Magazine Awards. She was also nominated ‘Best British
Female’ at the 2011 Brit Awards.
Ellie also contributed to the track ‘Bittersweet’ (which was produced by Skrillex)
which featured on The Twighlight Saga’s – Break Dawn part 2 soundtrack.
