1. “ How I Learned to Get Around the

5.
6. And even if you start it five days ahead of time, there
will be problems.
Good example is what I am doing right now. I spent
over an hour writing up and structuring this part of
your Blackboard course. And then, just when I was
finished, it disappeared into cyber space. I do not have
a clue why or where it went. After I spent two
minutes banging my head on the computer desk,
I dusted myself off and now have started all
over, from scratch. Last semester when I was taking
an online course, this happened frequently. I started
early, and still things went awry. The only difference
now is that last semester I was banging my head on
the desk for ten minutes. Now I am down to two.
That is only because I now am a slave to the whims of
technology
7. …and start early. If you are a
procrastinator, you will not
be successful in this course.
Deadlines have to be met.
Computer failure is not an
exception or excuse. Part of
the learning that you will
experience will not be from
the curriculum...it will come
from how you organize
yourself, plan, and how you
respond to the inevitable
crisis that IS going to occur.
8. You are at the mercy of the technology gods! If it
can go wrong, it will.
Period.
You have to expect it and plan for it. You should
always have a Plan B because in an online
environment, your technology problem will not
be solved immediately.
9. You cannot begin this course without negotiating
this Blackboard site. This version of Blackboard is
different from the version that you have
experienced in your high school. Therefore, you
need to familiarize yourself with all of the buttons
to the <-left in the course menu
10. This is the HOME PAGE and when you sign into the
course, any communications that I want to make with
you will be there.
You cannot avoid me.
I will be popping up before
your eyes every time you sign in.
And you need to sign in.
Daily. Often. Regularly.
11. This is the book of Dual Enrollment English.
All the
numbers, contacts, dates, requirements and
things you never thought about are here.
Run off a copy of this and post it next to
your computer monitor. Look at it. Read it
all the way through. Read the fine print.
Educate yourself. You have been warned...:)
13. I am the QUEEN of this complex, but the
Discussion Board is the BRAIN. You will
need to be able to post a thread and
reply to threads.
Our first accomplishment will come from learning
all about the Discussion Board. Please access the
following link and familiarize yourself with the
Discussion Board and what you need to do with it.
http://ondemand.blackboard.com/r9/movies/9_
Discussions_Tour.htm
14. 1) click on the Discussion Board link to the <-left
2) Click on the LET ME INTRODUCE MYSELF link.
3) Read the instructions for LET ME INTRODUCE MYSELF and click on the
link to the .pdf about how to embed an avatar/picture.
4) Click on CREATE A THREAD
5) Put your name in the subject line of the thread and introduce yourself in
the body of the thread. This is your opportunity to create your “persona”
in cyberspace and give your compadres in the class a sense of who you
are.
6) Embed a picture of yourself or an avatar or something that represents who
you are!
7) Hit SUBMIT
8) Respond to at least three of your classmates' introductions.
