The Angry Eye
In class we watched a video on YouTube called “The Angry Eye.” It is about an
experiment that Jane Elliot has adapted and done over the years. What she does is divide the
group in two by eye colors. Mostly it ends up being white people in the middle of the group who
becomes discriminated on. Then the other races and some white people are in the outer circle
around them. It puts other people in the shoes of those who are discriminated on a daily basis.
Jane Elliot opens the eyes and puts pressure on the people in the middle. It makes in
uncomfortable. If I was sitting in there I would probably cry if she got into my face, even though
it was just an exercise.
The one thing that stood out to me the most in this exercise was when the one girl in the
middle got up and left. It was then brought to my attention when Jane Elliot brought up how
people of other races and have been discriminated every day and they cannot walk away from it.
This one girl was put under too much pressure and then she just got up and left. For people who
are discriminated on they cannot just walk away from it.
