Freemasons commemorate Rizal’s 150th

MAGALANG – Freemasonry members here recently commemorated the 150th national
hero, Dr. Jose Rizal here.
Dennis L. Cunanan, director general of the Technology Resource Center (TRC) led members
of the Magalang Lodge #391 of Free and Accepted Masons during the wreath laying
ceremonies at the statue of the national hero in front of the Magalang town hall.
Cunanan, who is also the Worshipful Master of the Masonic lodge, said they want to show
appreciation of Rizal’s sublime achievements including various writings and works which he
dedicated for the freedom of the country against Spanish rule.
The Masonic lodge here is under the jurisdiction of the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of
Free and Accepted Masons of the Philippines.
Rizal was also member of the ancient fraternity where he was raised on November 15, 1890
at Logia Solidaridad in Madrid, Spain.
Rizal later affiliated with a lodge under the Grand Orient of France on October 14, 1891 and
was made honorary Worshipful Master of Nilad Lodge No. 144 in 1892 where he delivered a
lecture entitled ‘La Masoneria’.

2. Cunanan urged members of the freemasonry to follow the exemplars of Rizal in the
aspiration for aprosperous country.
Also present during wreath laying rites were District Deputy Grand Master for RIII-A
Gerardo Feliciano; former mayors Daniel Lacson Jr. and Lyndon Cunanan; Senior Warder of
the Lodge, Norman Canlas; Junior Warden Edgar Guevarra, District Grand Lecturer Beda
Quiambao Jr., among others.

DENNIS CUNANAN PHILIPPINES BYLINE: Director General Dennis L. Cunanan of the
Technology Resource Center of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) has an
extensive background of service in both the public and private sector, having been involved

Dennis has long been an active member of Junior Chamber International Philippines, the
national chapter of a non-profit international organization driven by Young Active Citizens
Creating Positive Change. JCI is the oldest and most premier leadership development
organization in Asia, from its founding in 1947.
He was appointed National President of JCI Philippines in 2005.
As National President, Dennis prioritized a 3-Point Agenda for training, entrepreneurship,
and re-integration of the family in the organization; he hopes to carry a similar focus when he
