1. IIT ENTRANCE EXAM
The IIT Entrance Exam is internationally acknowledged as the toughest competitive examination
in the world for admission to the undergraduate programme in Engineering of prestigious IIT. In
2011, about 485,000 candidates appeared for this examination to fill about 9600 seats in 17
institutions (15 IIT’s plus IT-BHU & ISM, Dhanbad). A degree from an IIT opens up a huge
vista of opportunities for a student for finding lucrative jobs in Multinationals in India or abroad,
for higher studies in reputed institutions around the world and other similar openings. To crack
the IIT Entrance Exams calls for a very disciplined and organized methodology of study,
supplemented with guidance from the experts.
IIT Entrance Exam format and types of questions
Currently the IIT Entrance Exam consists of two papers of 3 hours each duration, both consisting
of objective type of questions on Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics of the standard of class XI
& XII. The following types of questions may be included:
1. Multiple Choice questions: 4 choices are given. The questions may be:
a) Single correct answer type
b) Multiple correct answer type
2. Single correct answer type based on a paragraph of information.
3. Multiple Matching type questions.
4. Integer answer type: the students have to select among the choices given from 0 to 9.
5. Assertion – Reason type questions.
Since there is a negative marking for wrong answers, the students are advised to attempt only
those questions which they are sure about.
