2. THE POINT
The Pharisees did not find it sufficient to kill Jesus, now they
wanted the tomb to be secured till the third day. They were
afraid of the resurrection. They remembered Jesus had said
that He would arise after three days. They thought if he
arose, it would be the greatest deception. They got the tomb
secured and kept by guards. But still what they tried hard to
prevent happened. Christ rose from the dead. Today we are
living at a time post resurrection and to the extent we
understand the words that Jesus pronounced during His ten
appearances after His resurrection we will understand His
will for us and connect with Him rightly to enjoy the
blessings that He has in store for us.
3. Matthew 28:1-8
“ In the end of the Sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the
first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other
Mary to see the sepulchre.
2 And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of
the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the
stone from the door, and sat upon it.
3 His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as
snow:
4 And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as
dead men.
5 And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not
ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.
4. Matthew 28:1-8
6 He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place
where the Lord lay.
7 And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the
dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall
ye see him: lo, I have told you.
8 And they departed quickly from the sepulcher with fear and
great joy; and did run to bring his disciples word.
5. THE EVENT OF RESURRECTION
THERE IS A GREAT EARTHQUAKE
THE ANGEL OF THE LORD DESCENDS FROM HEAVEN
HIS APPEARANCE IS AS LIGHTNING
HIS CLOTHING WAS AS WHITE AS SNOW
HE ROLLS THE STONE AWAY AND SITS UPON IT
THE GUARDS TREMBLE AND BECOME AS DEAD MEN, AND
FINALLY FLEE IN TERROR.
6. THE RESURRECTION POWER
THE SOLDIERS WHO WERE COMMANDED TO
PREVENT THE RESURRECTION WERE THE FIRST
TO WITNESS IT.
THOSE WHO WANTED TO KEEP HIM DOWN ARE
THE FIRST WHO SAW HIM RISING UP.
7. THE RESURRECTION POWER
WHEN THE RESURRECTION POWER IS
UNLEASHED THE ENEMY WATCHES YOUR
ASCENSSION AND YOUR VICTORY AND HE IS
POWERLESS
8. THE FIRST RESURRECTION APPEARANCE:
MARY MAGDALENE (JOHN 20:11-28)
SHE STANDS OUTSIDE THE SEPULCHER WEEPING
SHE LOOKS INTO THE SEPULCHER AND SEES
TWO ANGELS.
THE ANGELS: “WOMAN,WHY ARE YOU
WEEPING?”
MARY: “BECAUSE THEY TOOK AWAY MY LORD,
AND I KNOW NOT WHERE THEY LAID HIM.”
SHE TURNS AROUND AND SEES JESUS, BUT
MISTAKES HIM FOR THE GARDENER.
JESUS: “ WOMAN, WHY ARE YOU WEEPING;
WHOM ARE YOU SEEKING?”
9. THE FIRST RESURRECTION
APPEARANCE: MARY MAGDALENE
MARY: “SIR, IF YOU BORE HIM AWAY, TELL ME
WHERE YOU LAID HIM, AND I WILL TAKE HIM
AWAY.”
JESUS: “MARY!”
MARY: RABONNI! (DEAR TEACHER)
JESUS: “DO NOT TOUCH ME, FOR I HAVE NOT
YET ASCENDED TO MY FATHER.”
“GO TO MY BRETHREN AND SAY TO THEM, I
AM ASCENDING TO MY FATHER AND YOUR
FATHER, AND TO MY GOD AND YOUR GOD!”
10. THE HEIGHT OF INTIMACY
John 13:13: Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say
well; for so I am.
John 15:15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the
servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called
you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I
have made known unto you.
JESUS: “DO NOT TOUCH ME, FOR I HAVE NOT YET
ASCENDED TO MY FATHER.” “GO TO MY BRETHREN AND
SAY TO THEM, I AM ASCENDING TO MY FATHER AND YOUR
FATHER, AND TO MY GOD AND YOUR GOD!”
11. THE MESSAGE OF THE FIRST
APPEARANCE
1- THE DISCIPLES WERE NO MORE
SERVANTS, NOR JUST FRIENDS BUT THEY
WERE NOW HIS BRETHREN.
JESUS: “DO NOT TOUCH ME, FOR I HAVE NOT YET
ASCENDED TO MY FATHER.” “GO TO MY BRETHREN AND
SAY TO THEM, I AM ASCENDING TO MY FATHER AND YOUR
FATHER, AND TO MY GOD AND YOUR GOD!”
12. THE SECOND RESURRECTION
APPEARANCE (MATTHEW 28:5-15)
The women who stood by Jesus at the cross
arrive at the garden.
They come with spice and ointments to
complete his burial.
They anticipate a problem: “who will roll away
the stone from the door of the sepulcher?”
They discover the stone has been moved.
They enter the sepulcher and are greeted by
two angels.
Do not fear; do not be amazed. For I know that
you seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified.”
Why seek the living among the dead? He is not
here, for He has risen, as he said.”
13. THE SECOND RESURRECTION
APPEARANCE (LUKE 16:2-8)
But go quickly and tell his disciples, and Peter, that he has risen from
the dead.
The women are filled with fear and joy and hasten to tell his disciples
the glorious news.
Jesus appears to them on the way.
Rejoice!
Fear not; go tell my brethren to go into Galilee, and there shall they
see me.”
The women seize Jesus by the feet and worship him and continue
their journey. The disciples do not believe their report.
Remember how he spoke to you, while he
was yet in Galilee, saying; The Son of man
must be delivered into the hands of sinful
men and be crucified, and the third day rise
again.”
14. THE THIRD RESURRECTION
APPEARANCE (LUKE 24:13-35)
They ask him where he has been during the recent days, not to have heard
of the tremendous events which have taken place. They tell him:
a)That there was a prophet, Jesus of Nazareth who had been mighty in word
and deed.
b)That he had been condemned and crucified by their own rulers.
c)That their personal hopes for Israel’s redemption are now shattered.
d)That his body was discovered missing and that there were unfounded
rumors of his resurrection.
Jesus joins two of his followers, Cleopas and
another person on the road to Emmaus, but is
recognized by neither.
He asks them what they were discussing and why
they were so sad.
15. THE THIRD RESURRECTION
APPEARANCE (LUKE 24:13-35)
Jesus rebuked them for their unbelief and
expounded the Old Testament messianic
passage to them, beginning with Moses.
Cleopas invites Jesus to lodge with them for
the night.
The two followers recognize Jesus as he breaks bread with
them at the table.
Jesus suddenly vanishes from their sight.
The couple share their hear experience while listening to Jesus
and then return to Jerusalem and tell the disciples that Jesus
has walked and talked with them.
They then learn that Christ has also appeared to Peter.
16. THE FOURTH RESURRECTION
APPEARANCE (LUKE 24:33-34)
“ 33 And they rose up the same hour, and
returned to Jerusalem, and found the
eleven gathered together, and them that
were with them,
34 Saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and
hath appeared to Simon.”
17. THE FIFTH RESURRECTION
APPEARANCE (LUKE 24:36-43)
“Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself.”
“Handle me, and see; for a spirit does not have flesh
and bones as you see I have.”
The disciples are gathered but Judas
and Thomas are not there and
suddenly, Jesus walks through the
door. He said
“Why are you troubled” And why do
doubting arise in your hearts?”
18. THE FIFTH RESURRECTION
APPEARANCE (LUKE 24:36-43)
THE LORD DID NOT WANT THE DISCIPLES TO BE
TROUBLED.
HE NOW ALLOWED THEM TO TOUCH HIM
BECAUSE HE HAD ALREADY PRESENTED
HIMSELF TO HIS FATHER AND THE DEBT OF SIN
WAS NOW OFFICIALLY PAID.
19. THE SIXTH RESURRECTION
APPEARANCE (John 20:24-29)
WHEN THE TEN DISCIPLES REPORT TO THOMAS THAT
THEY HAVE SEEN THE LORD.
THOMAS EXPRESSES HIS UNBELIEF IN THESE WORDS :
“Unless I see in his hands the imprint of the nails and
press my finger into the mark of the nails, and my
hand into his side, I will not at all believe.”
One week later, Jesus again walks through locked
doors and appears to the disciples along with Thomas.
20. THE SIXTH RESURRECTION
APPEARANCE (John 20:24-29)
The Lord: “Bring here your finger
and look at my hands, and bring
your hand and press it into my side,
and be not unbelieving but
believing.”
Thomas: “My Lord and my God.”
The Lord: “Because you have seen
me, Thomas, you have believed;
blessed are they who have not seen,
and yet have believed.”
22. THE SEVENTH RESURRECTION
APPEARANCE (John 21:1-25)
Peter and six other disciples have spent an
unsuccessful night fishing.
Early in the morning Jesus calls them from the shore:
Children have you caught any fish? The disciple said
no and the Lord said:
Cast out the net on the right sided of the boat and you
will find some. They did and their net was filled with
153 large fish.
23. THE SEVENTH RESURRECTION
APPEARANCE (John 21:1-25)
Peter recognized the Lord and swam to Him.
Jesus cooked breakfast and invited them to come and
dine with Him. They had 153 fish to feed others but
the Lord wanted them to be fed by Him first before
they could feed others.
24. THE EIGHTH RESURRECTION
APPEARANCE (Matthew 28:16-20)
Jesus is worshipped on the mountain
by the eleven disciples in spite of
some who were still doubting.
He imparts to them:
THE FACT: “All authority has been
given unto me in heaven and upon
earth”.
THE COMMAND: “Go therefore and disciple all the
nations, baptizing them in the name of the father and
of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to
observe everything I commanded you.”
27. THE NINTH RESURRECTION APPEARANCE
(Mark 16:14-18; Luke 24:44-49)
The Lord appeared to the eleven and He rebuked their initial
unbelief and the hardness of their hearts.
He opened their understanding.
He repeats his command to them to evangelize the world.
He tells them to wait for the promise of the Holy Spirit from the
Father.
28. THE TENTH RESURRECTION APPEARANCE
(Mark 16:19-20; Luke 24:50-53, Acts 1:4-11)
The Lord blessed the disciples and promised them the
baptism of the Spirit.
He gives them the order to witness for HIM. Jerusalem
first, then Judea then Samaria then the extremities of
the earth.
Jesus is received up into glory at the right hand of God
the Father.
29. THE MESSAGE OF RESURRECTION
WOMAN, WHY ARE YOU WEEPING
DO NOT FEAR; DO NOT BE AMAZED
REJOICE!
FEAR NOT; GO TELL MY BRETHREN
JESUS REBUKED THEM FOR THEIR UNBELIEF
THE LORD IS RISEN INDEED
“WHY ARE YOU TROUBLED” AND WHY DO DOUBTINGS ARISE
IN YOUR HEARTS?”
YOU CAN NOW TOUCH THE LORD
30. THE MESSAGE OF RESURRECTION
ONE WEEK LATER, JESUS WALKS AGAIN THROUGH
LOCKED DOORS AND APPEARS TO THE DISCIPLES
ALONG WITH THOMAS.
BLESSED ARE THEY WHO HAVE NOT SEEN, AND YET
HAVE BELIEVED
THE LORD WANTS YOUR SUCCESS. HE IS AGAINST
YOUR FRUSTRATION
31. THE MESSAGE OF RESURRECTION
JESUS COOKED BREAKFAST AND INVITED THEM TO
COME AND DINE WITH HIM.
JESUS GAVE THEM A FACT, A COMMAND AND A
PROMISE
JESUS OPENED THEIR UNDERSTANDING
THE LORD BLESSED THE DISCIPLES AND PROMISED
THEM THE BAPTISM OF THE SPIRIT.
