105. Key Take Aways BI “Purpose Built” Applications makes Buy/Build Decision Easy Convergence of BI and EPM is being driven by customers, not products #1 EPM is what’s next for ERP/CRM Customers #2 #3
We think that taking a look at Oracle BI Applications might be one way to solve this problem for you….
If ERP and CRM systems enabled companies to achieve operational excellence, our strategy in Enterprise Performance Management is to help companies achieve management excellence where the decision cycles are integrated, where their facts are based on a single version of the truth and where their plans accurately reflect the potential of the business. We‘re very proud to say that the solutions we offer today have helped some of the most complex multi-national organizations reach world-class status in many of their management processes.
Speaking points: ERP have had a huge impact on the way organizations are run by automating complex processes, improving quality and lowering infrastructure costs. They have streamlined fragmented processes and created substantial operational efficiencies These efficiencies enabled companies to expand globally, reduce operating expenses and become more competitive
Speaking points: Oracle’s EPM Vision is to help our customers extend operational excellence to management excellence. With the broad scale adoption of ERP systems, the competitive advantage of operational excellences is beginning to fade opening up a new frontier that Oracle calls Management Excellence. Market leaders must compete on analytics and improve their management processes. Oracle’s vision of EPM is to build on the operational excellence achieved from ERP standardization and create the next wave of competitive differentiation – we call that management excellence. Whether you call it Management Excellence or Competing on Analytics like Thomas Davenport from Harvard – we all know the value of information and strategic decision making is profound.
Speaking Points: What are the key attributes of companies who have achieved management excellence? These three pillars of management excellence provide organizations competitive advantage: 1. Smart: There is no shortage of data and every organization has access to the same data both internally and externally. The difference is insight and having it faster than the competition. Smart organizations recognize that they must rationalize their analytical tools and management systems to eliminate the noise and provide actionable insights to all the stakeholders of the enterprise. 2. Agile: Being smart is useless if you can’t turn insights into action. Organizations are constantly changing through global expansion, product lines and acquisition so analytical systems need to dynamically plug into the evolving enterprise information architecture through standards. Agile organizations leverage best of breed tools that have advanced integration to operational systems and are hot pluggable with the existing architecture. 3. Aligned: The third pillar of Management Excellence is about aligning insights across the value chain and to all the stakeholders of the enterprise. Organizations must evolve from a command and control approach to a collaborative model incorporating contributions from all stakeholders and provide share information through integrated systems and processes.
Our overall winning product strategy is quite simple. Deliver the industry’s first integrated EPM System with the most comprehensive set of applications, the most powerful OLAP technology, a common enterprise information model and an information delivery layer that can be personalized to your needs. There’s no question, we’re defining and driving the agenda.
… All of which set the stage for Oracle’s strategic growth by Acquisition. These are the key criteria Oracle uses in assessing acquisitions, and we’re incorporating these acquisitions quite effectively… despite significant early doubts, the market is now validating the effectiveness of our approach. Substantial Benefits: Access critical expertise / functionality in industries and product segments Proven value of the acquisition versus potential time to market delay Increase rate of product investment to accelerate innovation More successful than either company standalone Removes viability and other concerns for target Utilizes the scale and scope of Oracle’s operations Oracle becomes a more important strategic partner: For more customers For more partners Defined Criteria Speeds Time To Benefit: Acquisitions must be closely aligned with the Oracle vision Built using standards-based Java-oriented technologies and development languages with interoperability Running on compatible architectures Consisting of complementary products Acquisitions must have significant number of customers in common Focus on immediate customer benefits Acquisitions must be capable of being integrated within six months Consolidate quickly to provide single face to customers Utilize Oracle operations infrastructure immediately
Oracle’s EPM System has 4 key components which I’ll take you through. Our EPM System leverages Oracle’s Fusion Middleware but is also hot pluggable with non-Oracle applications and technologies.
The most visible aspect of the EPM System is the information delivery layer. This pervasive access layer allows information to be personalized and delivered based on the individuals needs and role in the organization – one size doesn’t fit all. The EPM Workspace supports executives through Web-based dashboards. It can meet the needs of the most advanced analysts through the industry’s best Microsoft Office Integration. Our Workspace allows information consumers to utilize Google Search or Oracle Secure Search to find just the reports or metrics their looking for. Alternatively alerts can be pushed to mobile devices to notify managers of emerging issues or growing variances. No matter how technical or what information your consumers are looking for, Oracle’s EPM System can meet their information access needs.
Oracle’s EPM System leverages multiple components of Fusion Middleware today including the Master Data Management technology known as Oracle Data Relationship Manager – this solution helps customers synchronize analytical master data (e.g. dimensions and hierarchies) across operational and EPM applications. With our latest release 9.3.1, our solution integrates with Oracle WebCenter and Oracle Identity Management. In the future, we’ll continue to integrate more closely with other areas of Fusion Middleware including the Business Process Management services and data integration products like Oracle Data Integrator.
The second aspect of Oracle’s EPM System is our suite of packaged performance management applications. These solutions are best in class and rated #1 in their respective categories. They’re easy to manage, fast to deploy aligning the flexibility needs of the business with the manageability requirements of IT. Our strategy management solutions support the Balanced Scorecard framework enabling you to clearly communicate your strategy, align resources and initiatives to your goals and track performance across KPI’s. From a planning perspective, Oracle offers the most complete set of operational and financial planning solutions. Our solutions address everything from long-range strategic planning, cash flow planning to sales & operations planning to workforce and capital planning to financial budgeting and forecasting. Our Integrated Business Planning framework is the first in the industry and can help you align your operations and financial plans into a single consistent forecast for the next quarter, the next year or the next decade. In the spring of 2008, we’ll be introducing a new application for defining your profitability model for your business. Built on the same foundation as our existing applications, this exciting new solution will help define, manage and monitor profitability down to the customer, branch, product, business level. From a financial reporting and compliance point of view, we offer the market leading solution for improving your financial close cycle time. With a single solution, you can meet the rapidly changing management reporting needs as well as the regulatory and tax reporting requirements.
The 3 rd component of Oracle’s EPM System is our suite of BI Applications. Oracle BI Applications are complete, pre-built BI solutions that deliver intuitive, role-based intelligence for everyone in an organization—from front line employees to senior management—that enable better decisions, actions, and business processes. Based on best practices, these solutions enable organizations to gain greater insight and value from a range of data sources and applications including Oracle E-Business Suite, PeopleSoft, Siebel, and third party systems such as SAP. Oracle BI Applications are built on the Oracle BI Suite Enterprise Edition, a comprehensive, innovative, and leading BI platform. This enables organizations to realize the value of a packaged BI Application, such as rapid deployment, lower TCO, and built-in best practices, while also being able to easily extend those solutions to meet their specific needs, or build completely custom BI applications – all on one common BI foundation.
The core technology of Oracle’s EPM System is a highly scalable Business Intelligence Foundation. This foundation utilizes a common enterprise information model as the consistent semantic layer. This foundation has three specialized servers to meet your reporting and analytical needs. Essbase – the leading OLAP Server for building forward-looking analytic applications BI Server – highly scalable federated query engine for aggregating disparate data sources Predictive Analytics – Oracle Real-Time Decisions – a predictive analytics engine for embedding BI into operational processes (e.g. x-sell in call center)
We think that taking a look at Oracle BI Applications might be one way to solve this problem for you….
1997 – Founding of nQuire -- built originally as an EII -- no product sold for 1 ½ years. Spent 18 months researching / building the “right” BI solution -- designed to be open on back & front (ODBC front end). -- designed to be performant at the beginning (caching, federated queries, aggregate aware, etc) Siebel Acquisition in 2001 -- adolescence spent in an “Application” Environment -- BI “fused” into application for “transparent BI” -- RTD / Action Links / Guided Analytics…all concepts built in for Workflows Oracle acquires Siebel in 2005.

Speaker notes: Oracle and Hyperion both had a broad set of BI reporting and analysis tools, so one of the first things we’ve done is to create one bundle of products to make the selection process easier for new customers.
The Action Links provide a better user experience to navigate from your Oracle BI Application reports back to Oracle EBS. Our action links can move into the EBS screens in context of the record shown in the report. This can be accomplished by: Install the appropriate EBS patch for SSO integration with OBIEE. Retrieve the URL for the EBS page that you want to drill down to. create an Action Link with this URL to navigate to the Oracle Application page. It’s important to note that the lowest grain of records possible are pulled into the Oracle BI Apps from EBS, for example, GL and Inventory transactions, Order and Invoice lines, HR Employees and Events. Due to this fact it is easy for users to drill from the high level summary BI information that is created from these details down to successively more detailed information until they reach the most granular level possible. Once here, users may want to make changes to some of the transactional records related to this detailed information. Action Links make it very easy to navigate from the detailed records in BI to records in the transactional system while maintaining context.
Oracle Business Intelligence Applications provides tight integration with the EBS Security model to allow the right content to be shown to the right user. Our applications leverages a host of varied securing options that an administrator can use to authenticate and show critical business data to the right people. Security in Oracle BI Applications can be classified broadly into 3 different categories. User Security (Authentication of users) Object Security Data Security While the user security authenticates a user, and confirms that the person is allowed to view data being rendered by the Oracle Business Intelligence application, the other two are related to objects that make sure that the content being presented to the user is the content that the user is authorized to see for their specific role. Each of the 3 categories is discussed in detail in the following slides.

Speaker notes: And for customers who have Hyperion Interactive Reporting and would like to use this tool with both relational sources and Essbase – there’s good news in version 9.3.1 of this tool. Interactive Reporting now provides much stronger support for accessing and reporting on data within Essbase, with a number of traditional OLAP capabilities. This allows customers to build dashboards with mixed views of relational and OLAP data, even grids that have a mix of different data types in the columns and rows – i.e. budget from Essbase, actual from RDBMS.
