How could natural disasters effect the way we live? Why is it important to study natural disasters? What procedures need to take place in your family plan for a hurricane? What are some important factors to consider when preparing an emergency kit?

4. Content QuestionsThese answers will have been specifically covered during the lessons. Is it important to remain calm during an emergency? What would you need in a tornado preparedness kit?
5. Natural Disaster unit Students will learn about natural disasters that can happen in the United States. Students will be assigned a specific disaster and research things that can happen during and after the disaster takes place. Every student will work to create a list of materials that will be in an emergency preparedness kit. Students will work with their families to create an emergency preparedness plan.
6. The role of the teacher As the teacher, I will be responsible for providing the guidelines for each work period. I will also assist the students in their research throughout their project.
7. Role of the student The students are responsible for researching the after effects of their assigned natural disaster. Students will then research what they would need for an emergency preparedness kit. Students will create a family emergency plan. Students will compile their information in class and prepare a presentation.
8. Role of the parent Parents should help their children come up with a family emergency plan that will be the plan of action should a natural disaster take place.
9. Why Natural disasters? Natural disasters are a part of life, and the students need to know how to be what is happening. Students also need to know how to prepare for these disasters. It is important for students to have a strict plan of what needs to happen, because we are teaching them to not panic during an emergency.

11. Project based learning Project Based Learning is an approach teachers use to provide their students with authentic examples of material. This approach attempts to motivate the students with new and interesting ways to learn which will in turn spark interest in the subject.
