The CALM Collective Manifesto
.We fight for the liberation of all animals. This objective will be met when no animal is used for profit, confined, physically or mentally harmed, murdered, or otherwise oppressed, exploited, or victimized. We oppose all exploitation of animals used for food, for research and education, for fashion, for entertainment, as pets, or as part of ecological destruction.
.All oppressions are related. To end the oppression of one, we must end the oppression of all.
.Animal liberation includes the liberation of all humans. We are (pro)feminist, environmentalist, anti-racist, anti-classist, anti-ageist, anti-ableist, anti-homophobic, and queer positive. We fight capitalism and hierarchy in all its forms. Property is theft; we do not own ideas, things, or animals.
.The movement is liberating - it has liberated us. By joining the movement we have removed ourselves from the mindless occupation, social isolation, and emotional emptiness that dominates consumer culture. The movement has given us love, community, and empowerment.
.We dedicate our lives to the liberation of animals. We live without excess, minimize our participation in wage slavery, and give our time, money, resources, and skills to the movement.
.We act out of obligation, not charity. We use any privilege we have to help liberate animals (human and nonhuman) from violent, economic, and psychological harm. Privilege does not justify the choice to be passive.
.We organize based on principles of non-hierarchy, decentralization, and autonomy. Decision-making power lies with the activists performing the action as long as they abide by the framework outlined in the CALMaction guidelines.
.We live and work collectively. Our movement is one of sisterhood, brotherhood, and camaraderie. We practice cooperation, the shared and even distribution of work, and mutual trust, care, and respect.
.We do not engage in activities that pacify us, occupy us, or destroy our bodies, minds, comrades, or activism. This includes drug abuse, over-consumption, and excessive self-indulgence.
.We advocate constructive criticism and make ourselves and others better activists through constructive discontent.
.Our movement is for everyone. A diversity of individuals, thoughts, feelings, and tactics are needed for our movement to be effective.
.We support all initiatives that end the exploitation, oppression, and victimization of animals. We do not support actions that lead to the further oppression of any animal, including humans.
.Our actions are motivated by love, passion, conviction, and strength. Our actions are anti-oppressive and focus on the liberation, not the increased welfare, of animals. We believe that the power is within us to fight for total animal liberation. We do not rely on consumerism, politicians, or the law to grant 'animal rights'.
.The revolution is happening now. Our actions fight for total animal liberation today. Rise up until every cage is empty!
