Warning
Workshop
Academic Warning Defined: Academic Warning
occurs when your cumulative Three Rivers College
GPA is below a 2.0
Academic Warning=Cumulative GPA < 2.0
Why Does 2.0 Matter?
A student must have a 2.0 in order to graduate. If
the student has all of the necessary credits for a
degree but their cumulative (overall) GPA was
below 2.0 the student would NOT be able to
graduate.
What Now?
We want to share some
resources for success…..
Having an end goal is critical to success!
Questions to ask students on warning…
• Why are you attending Three Rivers College?
• Do you have a career goal?
• How much are you willing to sacrifice to reach
your goal?
What if I don’t have an end goal? Three Rivers can help….

Talk to your adviser
• Know what classes you need to take
• Discuss strategies to get back on track
• Let them know if you are struggling
• Advisers are experts on campus resources
• In order to register for classes, you must have
course approval from your advisor
To find student’s academic adviser, please visit
myTRCC – Student Profile
Have the Student talk to their Professor
While it can be intimidating, talking to your
professor is the first step to being successful
• Ask for clarification on assignments
• Let them know when things are going on in your
life that are affecting your ability to succeed
• Keep them in the loop
• Go to Office Hours (they're waiting)
Help student’s find a balance
College requires a lot of balancing. You have to
balance school, work, social life, and everything
else.
• Manage your time, don't let it manage you
• Don't overload yourself by trying to work full
time and attend school full time
• Create a routine so you have specific times to do
homework
• Don't procrastinate doing homework and
studying for tests
Find a place conducive to studying
A quiet place away from distractions. Like the
library. We have one of those. You can even reserve
study rooms.
Retake Classes to raise GPA
Three Rivers College repeat policeedure
• It must be the exact same course number
• Your original grade remains on your
transcript but is NOT included in your GPA
• This can only be done one time per class
• If a class must be repeated more than
once, the GPA of the second repeat and all
subsequent repeats are included in the
cumulative GPA.
How to calculate GPA to account for retakes
A = 4
B = 3
C = 2
D = 1
F = 0
Multiply number associated with grade by number of credit
hours for class to obtain Grade Points
Ex (PHYS 101, 5 credit hours with “B” = 5 x 3 = 15 pts.)
MATH 01, MATH 02, ENGL 02, ENGL 08, READ 01, READ 02,
and GNST 090 do not raise or lower GPA!
How to calculate GPA to account for retakes
Using transcript:
- Remove any points associated with a course you are
repeating.
+ Add anticipated points for retake
÷ Divide points by credits attempted.
How to calculate GPA to account for retakes
25 35 1.4
ENGL 111 F = 0 B 9
25 35 + 9 = 44 44/25=1.76
How does your GPA affect financial aid?
Federal financial aid regulations require that students receiving financial
aid be monitored for Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) every term in
four areas:
Completion Rate
Grade Point Average
Maximum Enrollment Limit
Multiple Withdraws in One Year
Academic Warning/Probation are separate from Financial Aid
Warning/Probation.
Students on Financial Aid Probation are not eligible for PELL Grants or
Student Loans!
For questions and assistance with Financial Aid,
please contact the Office of Financial Aid at
financialaid@trcc.edu.
Students may also check their aid status via
myTRCC - Financial Aid Award Status
Academic
Standing Policy
Academic Warning
Students with 12 or more attempted credits whose
cumulative Three Rivers College GPA falls below 2.0
will be placed on academic warning. These
students will be required to meet with Academic
Advisors 3 times per semester.
*Students will be required to meet each semester
until the cumulative GPA is a 2.0 or above.
Academic Probation
Students on academic warning will be placed on academic probation if :
• Student fails to achieve a 2.0 semester GPA
• Student fails to attend mandatory academic warning meetings.
Students on Academic Probation are ineligible to return to Three Rivers
College for at least one semester. (Fall or Spring)
Students on Academic Probation may appeal their probation to the
Registrar. Currently the form is located under Financial Aid: Forms and
Documents
*Students who have not attended their mandatory academic warning
meetings are not eligible for appeal!
This section for Enrollment Services and External Location Staff Only!
Remember, students on academic warning must meet with an advisor and discuss the
process of progressing off warning status. They are to meet with an advisor 3 times
during the semester. Once a student has met with one of you, please remember to go
to colleague, type FASI, then select CM at the bottom, then select CRI from the list.
Mark as “Received” the RGC15FA (1,2,3) meeting. If none have been marked select 1
and so on.
The following slides demonstrate how to process this in Colleague.
Go to FASI and select CM
Select CRI
Mark RGC15FA (1,2,or 3) as “Received”
It is important to mark these students as “Received” as this factors into their appeal if they
still are not successful or do not quite bring their GPA all the way up.
