52
Temenos Technical Approval PASSED
PoC database used T24 - R12 & R13 in separate tests
ODA configured with 2 nodes and DB 11gR2 in RAC
T24 Banking system (batch tested) End of day (accrual) & End of
month (capitalisation) on 5 million customer accounts.
Performance very good with the month end completing in 1hr 49min
and a transaction rate for 700-780 transactions per second with
Binary XML secure files.
Very good scalability, 12 processors allocated per node running T24
application, driven to 70-80% busy.

Performance Testing Methodology
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
53
Install T24 / create & populate the database with 5m accounts & customers
Run a close of business batch process (end of day)
Inject customers and accounts via OFS / jMeter / Browser / JMS scripts
Run end of month (capitalisation)
Scale up worker agents and measure transactions per second per agent
Avoid locks in the database (scheduling & partitioning)
Gauge scalability of processes.
Inject full spread of T24 transactions, e.g. Balance enquiry, funds
transfer, clearing, account opening etc to ensure all are working as expected
and measure the “footprint” of each transaction for the customer sizing
process.

Editor's Notes The optional storage expansion shelf doubles the storage capacity of the Oracle Database Appliance X3-2. With the optional storage expansion shelf, the appliance contains 36 TB of raw storage that’s triple-mirrored or double-mirrored, offering 12 TB or 18 TB, respectively of resilient usable database storage. There are also an additional four 200 GB solid-state disks for the database redo logs. Running the appliance does not require specialized clustering or high availability skills. Just cable the three components together, plug in the power, plug in the network, push the one-button install on Appliance Manager software, and you’re ready to go.All of this ease in deployment and on-going management saves on the enormous effort it takes to run highly available systems, which adds to the costs. With the Oracle Database Appliance, the typically required installation and optimization, as well as administration required for system and networking are automated, removing significant time requirements and related costs, and reducing the required skill sets to operate. This slide shows a typical example of a mid-size business’ three year growth pattern when deploying a new database:The customer expects that their application usage will eventually dictate that 32 cores be enabled Year 0: Customer only needs 4 core processing power as team is deploying/testing application and transitioning users to application Year 1: Customer now needs 8 core processing power hardware as user base is just beginning to learn and use applicationYear 2: Customer now needs 12 core processing power as user base is now fully engaged with new applicationYear 3: Customer now needs 16 core processing power as user base itself has continued to grow but not quite to the 32 core threshold that was originally anticipated This slide is meant to provide a broad overview of the best case savings scenarios a customer could expect comparing ODA to a build-your-own solution with x86 hardware and a software stack that could either include Oracle 11g or a competitive DB such as MS SQL Server or DB2. It is recommended that after sharing this slide, you build a customized TCO comparison report by comparing:Hardware Expenses: ODA vs. Build your OwnLicensing and Support Expenses: Pay-As-You-Grow versus Pay-it-all-NowLabor: Time needed with ODA versus Build your OwnHP 24 Core Configuration Detail:2x HP DL380 G8 Configuration + 2x P2000 G3 SAS MSA + 4x 200GB SLC SSDs + 20x 2.5” 10K 900GB SAS HDDs. Dell 24 Core Configuration Detail:2x Dell PowerEdge R720 Configuration + 2x Dell PowerVault MD3200 + 4x 200GB SLC SSDs + 20x 2.5” 10K 900GB SAS HDDs. Time Figures for Setup, Maintenance/Patching, and Support are derived from ORC International report comparing ODA to build-your-own with MS SQL Server. For more detail see backup chartsDollar Figures for Setup, Maintenance/Patching, and Support calculated by # of hours multiplied by $100 per hour (assumed hourly rate for in-house DBA based upon Indeed.com Average Oracle DBA salary of $95K and 100% uplift (http://www.indeed.com/salary/Oracle-Database-Administrator.html)From the Software Licensing perspective with the pay-as-you-grow option a customer deploying RAC on ODA can save up to 88% list price on software and support depending on how many cores are enabled and what high availability option is chosen. At Oracle, we always knew that Oracle VM Templates can save significantly on deployment time.To validate this, we commissioned the Evaluator Group to conduct a test in their independent labs using only publicly available Oracle documentations. In this lab validation, the Evaluator Group deployed a 2 node Oracle Real Cluster using Oracle VM templates. The group also deployed the 2 node cluster Oracle RAC on VMware vSphere. The resulting time savings was 10x with Oracle VM taking about 3 and a quarter hours vs. with VMware vSphere taking over 39 hours.
