3. Podcasts: What are They?
 A podcast is an emerging technology.
 By definition it is an audio file on the Internet.
 They are one-way communications and are not
interactive.
 Podcasts can be accessed from desktop computers,
laptops, iPods, Pocket PCs, Palm handhelds and other
devices.
 They are inexpensive and easy to use.
 3 types of podcasts are:
 Audio
 Enhanced (with pictures)
 Video

4. Podcasts: How Can They Be
Used?
There is no limit to the ideas for learning with podcasts.
Some projects could include: updates on classroom news, record a class
discussion, conduct interviews, share book reviews, and review curricular
content.
Teachers can also record notes and lectures for downloads.
Students can use podcasts for projects and project support interviews.
Podcasts can be used for audio recordings of chapters in textbooks to
support
audio learners and make content easily portable. They can also be used
to
capture sounds found in nature, such as animal, bird and human heart
sounds that would be useful for field studies.

5. My Podcast Concepts
Podcasting has become so important that online course management
systems, such as Angel Learning are now incorporating features
enabling providers to include podcasting.
When you subscribe to a tag through an RSS link, such as Podcast.net,
you automatically receive new podcasts that contain the tag of interest.
“Thus, content finds you, not the other way around.”

For managing podcasts, Juice for Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux is
recommended. Juice is free software, and lets the user listen to podcasts
anytime anywhere, and supports more than 15 languages.

6. Photo Story: What Is It?
 Photo Story 3 is an emerging technology.
 Photo Story is digital storytelling.
 Presentations can be very basic or users can add
special effects, such as transition effects, titles,
captions, music and narration.
 It is easy to use and guides the user through each
step.
 The program allows users to touch up, crop and
rotate images.

7. Photo Story: How Can It Be
Used?
Next
Photo Story can be used for many projects. Window users can create
slideshow videos with digital photos. You can use photos or images downloaded
from the Internet. Students’ work can also be downloaded and incorporated.
Also use Photo Story to make class or individual videos to showcase student
projects, work, and narration of what they learned.
Digital stories can be viewed on the television, computer or a Windows Mobile-
based portable device. Teachers can use photo story to make presentations
for teaching units and for classes to see their progress. Older students can
use photo story to engage in their own projects. The possibilities are endless!

Concepts
Photo Story is a great resource to create presentations to tie the end of
learning units together.
Students that create presentation with Photo Story are using critical
thinking skills.
“Educators need to integrate technology into their lesson plans more and
more as companies are demanding future employees with computer
skills, and the technology generation is growing bored with
traditional teaching methods.”

9. Graphic Organizers: What Are
They?
 Graphic organizers are communication devices that
show the organization or structure of concepts as
well as relationships between concepts.
 There are two types of graphic organizers: Those
that depict basic information structures and those
that serve special needs.
 Inspiration.com is an emerging technology that
creates graphic organizers.

11. My Graphic Organizer:
Inspiration.com specializes in graphic organizers and has made them much
easier
for teachers and students to use. Teacher’s can design and file their lessons
on the computer and students can engage in their lessons on the computer.
Next
Inspiration.com graphic organizers are efficient in helping students organize
and learn their material more easily. This in turn uses time most effectively.
It also enables students to process information at higher learning levels.
“While information sometimes does get put into little boxes when graphic
organizers are constructed, what is important to understand is the powerful
nature of all the processes that occur both before and after the information
is put into the boxes.”

12. Finally, emerging technologies and the World Wide Web offer powerful
teaching resources that provide educators with an endless wealth
of information and shared professional practices.
With resources such as podcasts, photo story and graphic organizers
educators can create meaningful learning experiences for students,
giving them the opportunity to learn sophisticated computer and
research skills.
Emerging technologies are interesting and creative for students and
teachers. They engage students in their learning process. They are
efficient, effective and competitive resources for today’s education.
