5. About Chhattisgarh
Chhattisgarh state has an area of about one lakh 35 thousand 361 square
kilometers.
According to the 2011 census, the total population of Chhattisgarh 55 lakh 40
thousand 196 million.
It is the second largest state in the country in terms of mineral revenues
One third largest state in terms of revenue
44% of the total area of the state is full of valuable forests
It leads in nut plantations for biodiesel production in India
The central plains of Chhattisgarh are known as the "Rice Bowl" of Central
India
Bastar is known the world over for its unique and distinctive tribal heritage

8. About the Organization
The Directorate of Public Relations is the channel between
Government and the people of Chhattisgarh for flow of
information
It disseminates information regarding various programmes and
policies of the Government to the masses through media channels
It is authority of the entire state press and communication
channels.
Mr. O.P. Chaudhary is the director of DPRCG [Directorate of
Public Relations Chhattisgarh]
The Organization is divided into
9. Functions & Objectives
To Submit report of Government about the policy of Hindi, English and
Urdu newspapers published in the State
To Visit of press representatives to different areas
Accreditation of press representatives and issue of certificates
Publication and display of classified advertisements in newspapers and
centralized payment of bills thereof
Publicity of the cultural and economic development of C.G. in different
languages
To arrange exhibitions within and outside the State
Liaison with All India Radio - Rural radio forum publicity through radio

Publicity of the achievements of the State Government through
cultural programs
Administrative charge of all buildings occupied by the
Information and Public Relations Department
Review of the tone and temper of Hindi, English and Urdu
newspapers published in the State
Control of all officers serving in the Information and Public
Relations Department
Production of newsreel, documentary and feature films and
publicity of the progress, development and culture of the State
11. Publications of DPRCG
The department releases annually several publications for the
publicity of the various works done by govt.
Chhattisgarh Janmann is the annual booklet that is distributed
across various other departments to let people know of govt.
schemes
Rozgaar Yojna is another news leaflet published weekly for
employment news
All government tenders are published under the PR wing
The dept. also publishes leaflets and pamphlets on public health
and welfare programs
13. My Work
I worked initially in the news collection department where we
scanned news all related to Govt. work
After one week I worked in the Design and Publication
department where in I assisted the professionals in designing copy
and creatives for Govt. hoardings, templates along with the annual
report of the department
In the third week we were sent to the Vidhan Sabha i.e. the state
assembly observing the nuances of its functioning
I also assisted in Media and Print department where sessions with
journalists were organized to inform about govt. welfare programs
In the last week I worked with the Secretariat when the election
Commission announced elections travelling to various districts
and witnessing the election work

No innovation in traditional PR system

Apprehension to face higher authorities of department
No technological advancement being a government body
17. Opportunities
To publicize Chhattisgarh as one of the most powerful and rich
states in India
Government support and outreach is very powerful
Young & fresh ideas can be put to use for attracting the state`s
youth
The department should get support in terms of finance to carry out
an effective campaign for state
18. Threats
State under serious pressure of illegal mining cases and tribal issues
Image of Chhattisgarh severely damaged due to naxalism due to
which business investors & state tourism is declining
State youth clueless about the welfare and employment programs
published by the DPRCG
19. Recommendations
DPRCG should stress on more allocation of budget to achieve its
desired targets
Rural welfare programs should be publicized more often and even
in naxal hit areas
State affairs like sports, education, women empowerment and
plantation should be emphasized through effective PR campaigns
followed by strict govt. measures
Corruption in the department should be reduced!
