As
AFA’s
Chief
Investigator,
you
will
spearhead
all
AFA
research
efforts.
Whether
it’s
a
question
we
need
answered
or
an
argument
we
need
substantiated
or
refuted,
you
will
be
responsible
for
strengthening
our
work
with
fact-‐based
answers
and
defendable
hypotheses.
When
you
sign
on
as
Chief
Investigator,
you’re
an
integral,
active,
and
long-‐term
member
of
the
Ambassadors
for
Africa
Executive
Team.
KEY
RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Get
behind
AFA’s
mission,
purpose,
values,
and
program
model
with
100%
enthusiasm.
Play
a
big,
committed,
audacious,
sometimes
stressful,
but
ultimately
rewarding
role
in
building
AFA
into
a
groundbreaking
community
and
social
movement.
Note:
This
is
truly
the
most
important
responsibility/qualification
of
all!!
● Identify
and
investigate
various
national
and
global
statistics,
histories,
trends,
and
theories
as
they
relate
to
AFA
and
its
mission.
Utilize
whatever
means
necessary
to
get
answers
(polls,
studies,
reports,
etc).
Research
questions
to
include:
○ How
many
black
Americans
have
traveled
abroad
in
their
lifetimes?
How
many
to
Africa?
What
are
the
main
reasons
blacks
cite
for
traveling
or
not
traveling?
○ Does
traveling
overseas
help
youth
develop
into
more
capable
and
ambitious
leaders?
○ How
much
would
the
average
black
American
family
or
individual
be
willing
to
pay
for
the
AFA
experience?
● Translate
findings
into
compelling
arguments
and
be
a
thought
leader
in
shaping
AFA’s
program
and
business
models.
● Attend
weekly
Executive
team
meetings;
check-‐in
informally
throughout
the
week
to
update
team
on
progress.
● Other
duties
as
discussed,
agreed
upon,
and
assigned.
SKILLS
&
QUALIFICATIONS:
● Excellent
interpersonal,
communication,
and
listening
skills;
ability
to
communicate
constructively
across
differences
is
an
absolute
must.
● Ability
and
willingness
to
work
in
close
and
constant
collaboration
with
all
members
of
executive
team.
● Enterprising
and
inquisitive
nature;
excited
by
the
prospect
of
answering
big,
weighty
questions.
● Steadfast
and
determined;
willing
to
turn
over
every
stone
necessary
to
get
the
necessary
answers.
● Humble,
open-‐minded,
and
laid-‐back;

an

● Achievement,

Previous
research
experience
a
big
plus.
● New
York
City
base
is
ideal
and
preferred,
but
if
you’re
right
for
the
team
and
out
of
town,
we’ll
make
it
work.
COMPANY
OVERVIEW:
Ambassadors
for
Africa
brings
together
black
American
youth
ages
7-‐24
from
all
walks
of
life
for
a
program
designed
to
develop
their
global
leadership
capacity
while
preparing
them
for
a
life
as
advocates
for
meaningful
and
sustainable
African
development.
After
completing
a
curriculum
rooted
in
responsible
volunteerism
&
cultural
exchange,
social
entrepreneurship,
and
Black
&
African
Studies,
youth
participate
in
service
trips
to
Africa,
where
they
form
sustainable
relationships
with
African
youth
&
community
partners
in
key
sectors.
Upon
their
return
to
the
U.S.,
participants
complete
collaborative
social
action
projects
to
effect
change
in
the
areas
of
African
development
most
meaningful
to
them.
At
the
core
of
AFA’s
program
model
is
our
abiding
belief
that
the
black
American
community
has
been
a
sorely
overlooked
ally
in
the
ongoing
struggle
for
lasting
African
prosperity.
Furthermore,
we
believe
that
exposure
to
the
African
cultural
and
socio-‐economic
milieu
will
empower
black
youth
with
a
more
complete
perception
of
their
personal
identity
and
equip
them
with
a
more
dynamic
understanding
of
the
pressing
issues
facing
Africa-‐descendant
communities,
both
in
America
and
abroad.
Long
term,
AFA
will
serve
as
a
critical
facilitating
link
between
AFA
alumni
and
continental
African
communities
and
organizations,
fueling
and
facilitating
their
contributions
to
the
continent
over
time.
WEEKLY
TIME
COMMITMENT:
Varies,
but
an
anticipated
average
of
4
hours
per
week
to
start:
2
hour
weekly
team
meeting
and
2
hours
independent
work.
SALARY
&
BENEFITS:
No
paid
salary
or
wage
at
this
time.
