Definition
TBL is a task as a piece of classroom work which
involves learners in comprehending, manipulating,
producing, or interacting in the target language while
their attention is principally focused on meaning
rather than form.

 Fact-Finding
2. Ordering and sorting
 Sequencing
 Ranking
 Categorizing
 Classifying

PRE-TASK
(introduction to topic and task)

LANGUAGE FOCUS
(analysis - practicing)
Principle of TBL
1. The class activities have a perceived purpose and a
clear outcome.
2. Negotiation between teacher and students.
3. The teacher revises the correct target form by recasting
what the students have said.
4. The students should receive feedback on their level of
success in completing the task.
5. The teacher gives students more opportunity for
authentic and meaningful interaction.
Advantages
 Task based laerning is motivating students.
 Students become interested.
 Strong communicative approach.
 The language explored arisen from the students’
need.
Disadvantages
 The students will learn limited language form
 Task-based learning requires a high level of creativity and
initiative on the part of the teacher
 Grouping can be problematic.
