Day
of
High
School
Reserved
for
Freshmen
and
New
Students
As
part
of
the
innovative
Ignition
program,
the
first
day
of
school
for
all
high
schools
on
Wednesday,
August
21,
2013
is
reserved
for
freshmen
and
new
students
only.
All
other
high
school
students
in
grades
10
through
12
start
school
the
following
day,
Thursday,
August
22,
2013.
Schedule:
• Wednesday,
August
21,
2013
–
first
day
of
school
for
grades
1
through
9
as
well
as
new
students
in
grades
10
through
12.
• Thursday,
August
23,
2013
–
first
day
of
school
for
grades
10
through
12.
Ignition
is
a
transition
program
that
helps
students
build
relationships
and
make
a
positive
shift
to
high
school.
On
the
first
day
of
school,
freshmen
meet
with
mentors,
attend
group
activities,
tour
buildings
and
familiarize
themselves
with
class
schedules.
By
allowing
freshmen
to
start
the
school
year
without
upper
class
students,
teachers
and
administrators
are
able
to
connect
and
engage
with
students
early
in
the
transition
process
and
foster
a
more
constructive,
positive
high
school
experience.
District
high
schools
have
various
Ignition
schedules
and
activities
on
the
first
day
of
school.
Parents,
guardians
and
students
should
check
their
high
school
website
for
specific
Ignition
information
prior
the
first
day
of
school.
