Dear Parents and School Community,
In just a few days, on Wednesday-September 3, our doors will open for the 2014-2015
school year. As our excitement builds to be with old and new friends, we look forward
to learning together in an innovative school setting. On behalf of our entire faculty and
staff, we look forward to collaborating with you as partners in your child’s education!
We encourage you to visit the District website and to read the District’s Vision, Mission,
and Core Beliefs. These statements express Superintendent Dr. Zega’s genuine
commitment to your child. This site offers important information such as the 2014-2015
Student Calendar and Student Handbook.
Our school embraces the vision:
To educate happy and intelligent children in a caring and inspiring environment
Your involvement is essential to our success. As your child’s first teacher, your
compassion and knowledge assist your child and our school every day. We encourage
you to become greater involved by volunteering at school and/or joining the Parent
Teacher Organization (PTO). I am truly grateful to be part of a school team that is
dedicated to the success and well-being of each child!
Please read the attached page for beginning of the year announcements and tips.
At Indiana Avenue School, we believe that every child is capable of great
accomplishments. Looking forward to a wonderful year together!
With all good wishes,
Sharon A. McGreevey

Beginning of the Year Announcements and Tips
School Year begins on Wednesday, September 3, 2014
1. Explore our school’s website and visit the Parent Pack link on the right side of our
screen. In the Parent Pack you will find forms to fill out to send to school with your child.
On this same link, after the pages of forms, you will find supply lists for each grade level.
Your child may bring in the supplies over the first two weeks. We want the children to be
comfortable and not carry too much to school on the first day.
2. On the Genesis Parent Portal, you will find the name of your child’s teacher and
classroom number. To keep all our students safe and calm on the first day, please write
your child’s full name, teacher’s name, and classroom number on an index card
that your child can present the first day at school.
3. Write your child’s full name on coats, backpacks, lunchboxes, etc., so we can return lost
items to the owners.
4. Bus Procedures:
The Transportation Department sent out a bus pass for each child traveling by bus. For
the safety of your child, it is important that your child goes on the assigned bus starting
the first day. Bus drop-offs at school will be on the playground area, only for buses- no
cars or visitors permitted. Transportation phone # 732-346-2300.
5. Drop-off Procedures for Parents:
All students who walk with, or are driven by, a parent must be dropped off on Elizabeth
Avenue. Students will enter through Door 11 (below the large set of stairs).
6. During morning drop off and afternoon pick-up times, Indiana Avenue (street) will only be
open to the 14 buses dropping off students. Safety first!
7. Parent visitors should park on Elizabeth Avenue and walk to the front door of the
building.
8. After school pick–up by parent/guardians are all on Elizabeth Avenue (unless your child
normally travels by bus). Students in Grades K, 3, 4, and 5 will be dismissed through
Doors 10 and 11. Students in Grades 1 and 2 will exit at Door 12 located at the
northeast corner of our building on Elizabeth Avenue at approximately 3:30 p.m.
9. If you wish to make changes to your child’s normal routine of busing, drop-off, or pick-up,
you must send a note to the teacher. Safety first!
10. A more detail letter about arrival and pickup will be sent out on Friday.
If you have any questions, please call the school at #732-602-8518. Thank you for your help
and support in keeping the children safe! Best wishes for a wonderful school year together!
