This presentation was given by Garrett Jacobs on 10/5/15 At SxSW Eco and describes the work the AFH Chapter Network has been doing this year and where we hope to go as a new organization.
A big thanks to everyone who helped out - especially Courtney Drake and her hard work on the presentation graphics.

8. AfH has given me opportunities to use - and
develop - my skills as a designer in ways that
my "job" has not, while keeping me motivated
and inspired by connecting me with other
passionate, talented individuals.

16. KRT and AFH volunteers were able to impress
upon the Sardar (the local landlord) of the area to
give the women land rights to their homes.
Previously, this was unheard of! With this change,
the local women have become secure and
independent. Social awareness has drastically
increased, and the women are now requesting
assistance with education and health facilities.

26. We believe in a world where every
community has a voice in the design of
their built environment.
Inclusive design is how we achieve this goal.
29. I have always thought that volunteering for
AFH advocates for designers. We reach
out to communities and they learn more
about the value of design. We also are a
catalyst for projects to get off the ground
and that creates jobs for architects and
designers, usually in a new market.

36. I was really impressed with both the level of
alignment in your values, and the shared
purpose that you all worked with throughout the
day. I left the day really optimistic about your
future - and inspired to carry some of that
commitment back into my own work.

45. It took a great deal of skill and creativity and
imagination to build the kind of situation we
have, and it is going to take skill and
imagination and creativity to change it. We are
going to have to have people as committed to
doing the right thing, to โinclusiveness,โ as we
have in the past to exclusiveness.
