Introduction:
TOEFL- The Test of English as a Foreign Language is a test which measures people’s
English language skills to see if they are good enough to take a course at university or
graduate school in English-speaking countries. It is for people whose native language is
not English. It measures how well a person uses listening, reading, speaking and writing
skills to perform academic tasks.
The TOEFL score is a mandatory pre-requisite to get admission into universities in USA,
UK, Singapore and a few other countries where instruction is in English. Many
government agencies,scholarship programs and licensing/certification agencies use
TOEFL scores to evaluate English proficiency.
There are two formats of the TOEFL:
1. iBT(internet based test)
2. PBT(paper based test).
Most locations offer the TOEFL iBT and test centers that do not have internet facility
offer the PBT.
Scoring in TOEFL
You will be evaluated according to your performance in the Reading, Listening,Speaking
and Writing sections and the scoring for each section is as follows:
 Reading (0-30)
 Listening (0-30)
 Speaking (0-30)
 Writing (0-30)
 Total Score (0-120)
A good score is a total score of 90 and above
How many times can I take the TOEFL?
TOEFL can be taken unlimited number of times. (It is highly advisable not to appear for
TOEFL too many times as it may affect the applicant’s candidature).
What is the validity of the TOEFL exam?
Your TOEFL score will be valid for 2 years from the date the test was taken.
