The Laptop and Intellectual Property: Copyright and Fair Use in a 1:1 Laptop Environment
“I bought this DVD so now I can rip it and share it.” “My school bought that workbook so I can make as many copies as I need.” “No one has cassette players these days, so I am going to digitize our collection.” “Fair Use means that I can share as many copies as I need.” In this session Aaron Tyo-Dickerson will offer a brief overview of the legal principals of copyright and Fair Use and connect them to teacher and student experiences in the 1:1 laptop classroom with an emphasis on student copyright, teacher work-for-hire, and a “best defense” understanding of Fair Use. Participants in this session will take part in role play and hot seat activities to clarify their understanding of intellectual property issues and will receive editable copies of all presentation materials.
