BRaSS UCC - Entrepreneur of the Year Presentation 2014Peter Duffy
This document discusses barriers to using dynamic simulation techniques for building retrofits. It proposes a simplified energy modelling technique and evolutionary algorithms to provide optimal retrofit solutions. This new solution aims to remove barriers like the steep learning curve, time consumption, and high costs of current simulation software by offering online and licenced versions at competitive pricing. It expects to become commercially viable within 3 years through online sales and expanding to other countries.
The document discusses 10 trends in culture and commerce for 2015: 1) Outsourcing control to apps and services, 2) Increased use of multi-sensory experiences, 3) Technology enabling more intimacy, 4) Rise of shallow knowledge in an information-overloaded world, 5) Marketing seen more as a game by consumers, 6) Industries and products becoming more unbundled, 7) Rise of demonstrating good intentions through actions and brands, 8) New types of narratives emerging in media, 9) Conspicuous consumption now focused on intelligence rather than logos, and 10) Continued growth of digital commerce through new methods like drones and 3D printing.
Bauer Media would be the best media institution to distribute the author's music magazine because Bauer mainly distributes music magazines like Q magazine, which focuses on R&B and indie music genres similar to the author's proposed magazine. In contrast, IPC mainly distributes chat magazines and their brands do not align as well with a music magazine.

Продолжаем говорить о микрооптимизациях .NET-приложенийAndrey Akinshin
The document explains multiplication and how it is represented by the multiplication sign. It defines multiplication as simplifying the notation for repeatedly adding the same quantity. For example, 3 x 2 represents 3 copies of 2, or 2 + 2 + 2, which equals 6. The document notes that multiplication is commutative, so the order of the factors does not matter. It introduces the terms factors, product, and the vertical format for multiplying larger numbers. It provides examples of multiplying multi-digit numbers and carrying values between steps. Key features of the multiplication table are also summarized.
Digital images can be either raster or vector images. Raster images are made up of grids of pixels that each have a color value, while vector images use geometric shapes and mathematical expressions. The color depth, or bit depth, determines the number of possible colors for each pixel in a raster image and affects the image size. Vector images can be scaled to any size without losing quality since they are based on mathematical expressions rather than pixels.
The document discusses the production of a music video for a 1950s rock and roll song. It summarizes the creative choices made including using vintage microphones, clothing, and simplistic backdrops to portray the era. Close-ups were used to sell the "pretty boy" image of the artist, and pans added movement. Children were included to relate the theme of a "childhood sweetheart" and challenge conventions of modern music videos. Overall, conventions of the genre and period were adapted using modern production techniques.
The document discusses prime numbers and their properties. It defines what a prime number is as a number that is only divisible by 1 and itself. Some key points:
- A prime number has just two factors: 1 and itself.
- The first few prime numbers are 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, etc.
- Determining if a number is prime or not is an important problem in mathematics.
This document discusses reliable data transfer protocols including Go-Back-N (GBN). GBN allows a sender to transmit multiple packets without waiting for acknowledgements, up to a maximum window size of N. The sender bases retransmissions on a timeout for the oldest unacknowledged packet. The receiver discards out-of-order packets and sends cumulative acknowledgements for the highest in-order packet received. Pipelining helps increase utilization over stop-and-wait protocols but requires numbering packets, buffering, and handling retransmissions and duplicate packets.
This document describes a student's project to build an electromagnetic accelerator over the course of a school year. The student wanted to build the accelerator because it seemed like a cool project. They learned about electromagnetic accelerators from online sources and encountered many problems getting their design to work properly, such as capacitors that would not charge and parts that broke. The student concluded that electromagnetic concepts are complex but that they learned a lot about electronics, design, and the importance of organization through completing the project.
