Beginners Guide to TikTok for Search - Rachel Pearson - We are Tilt __ Bright...
EVALUATION: 7. Looking back to your preliminary task, what do you feel that you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
1. TRIPOD When filming the preliminary task we
did not use a tripod, instead we held the
camera which coursed our footage to be
shaky. For our opening sequence we did not
use the tripod for some parts, in order to show
a point of view of a character.
To get a tracking shot of the feet, in
the running scene, we put the camera on the
tripod and held it upside down, then ran away
alongside the actress. We did this to achieve
different camera angles for our opening
sequence, whereas in the preliminary task we
only used two types of camera angles. The
use of the different camera angles enabled us
to establish the genre, as horror; we used a lot
of point of views, as it matched our storyline,
of a girl spy someone and in order to express
fear. The point of view shots we used also
added tension, to our opening sequence.
AUTO OR MANUAL
FOCUS
We used an auto focus camera to film the
preliminary task and our opening sequence.
When we filmed the scene, where Celaine was
on the bed, the camera kept changing its focus
when we weren’t aiming that. However when
it came to editing, we realised that the
focusing issue we had actually worked well
with our opening sequence. So we kept it, and
used it as a point of view from Abbie, this also
showed that Abbie was half asleep. The focus
wasn’t brilliant in our preliminary, as the two
characters looked ghosts and you cannot see
their faces very well. The weird focus didn’t
work for the preliminary task video, whereas it
did for the opening sequence, so we kept it as
it was relevant. It was relevant for the
preliminary task but we still kept it.
2. LIGHTING The speaking part in the preliminary task was
very poor lighted. We chose to place the two
characters next to the window, which made
them look dark. Parts of our opening sequence
we used the natural light. On the first day of
filming our opening sequence the sky was red,
which was very lucky as we were filming the
part of the antagonist. The red sky enabled us
to establish characterisation of the antagonist
and the genre as horror. We wanted our
opening sequence to dark as it is horror, and
also wanted to create shadows, so we used
the flashlights from our phones.
CONTINUITY We had issues with continuity in the
preliminary task, as we had to re film some
parts. In the next shot they’re in, they are both
wearing different clothes, however it looks the
same. When we had to re-film anything for our
opening sequence we always made sure that
the characters’ costumes were the same in
order to avoid continuity.
MUSIC AND SOUND The music in our preliminary task was
irreverent and it was the first thing we found
in our documents and had decided to use it.
We had much more thought put into our
opening sequence when it came to music and
sound. We had decided to mute all sound that
we filming, as you couldn’t hear any of it and
added in sound effects. All of the sound effect
we used, were found online, the sound effects
included the running tap water, the door shut
3. and the scream. We spent time thinking about
what music to use for our opening sequence
and we chose ‘My Songs Know What You Did
in The Dark’ by Fall Out Boy; we chose this as
the song matched our storyline of secret
keeping and them been reviled. We also had
to ask permission to use the song as it is
copyrighted. The we also had the soundtrack
from American Horror Story playing
throughout our opening sequence as it linked
our opening sequence.
When I edited the preliminary task I found it
very difficult to edit the speaking between the
two characters (the 180 degree rule), however
in our opening sequence I was able to edit it.
This shows the how I have improved from the
preliminary task.
