Nigerian spending in the CCTV market is likely to account for 1.1% of the cumulative spending
total between 2014 and 2024, with an overall $3,982m being spent on the market by the country.
Much of this will consistently be invested in the analogue submarket as the result of its 51.4%
market share in 2014 and 56.9% market share in 2024.
Table 5.52, along with Figures 5.91 and 5.93, show the Nigerian CCTV market forecast in terms of
sales ($m), annual growth rates (AGR%), and compound annual growth rates (CAGR), in addition
to figures 5.94 and 5.95 which display Nigerian expenditure in relation to each CCTV submarket.
Table 5.53 below also provides a summary of the drivers and restraints of the Nigerian CCTV
market, along with more in-depth analysis.
5.17.2 Nigerian CCTV Market Drivers & Restraints
Table 5.45 Nigerian CCTV Drivers & Restraints
Drivers Restraints
• Increased government emphasis on securing
critical national infrastructure
• Current strong economic growth.
• Very high average crime-rate.

personnel are doing different jobs, they are taking notes of containers, they take notes of the
license plates of the trucks, they go back inside the booth, they type it in, they make mistakes, so it
takes some time before containers can be discharged out of the port. So what do we offer? We
offer to basically automate the operation, so instead of someone standing outside and every once
in a while gets hit by a truck and you have liabilities, the staff can stay in the booth and observe the
cameras that do everything automatically, including the container recognition, the license plate
recognition, information is going through the system and the staff don’t need to do anything, they
just double check the data.
Now the camera becomes irrelevant. Now you are helping them to increase the throughput of his
operations with minimal investment. We keep doing that for every market that we are in, whether it
is city surveillance, transportation, highways, we do all of those, the knowledge using digital video
management systems as a base, and added value added on top. And we manufacture the
algorithms – not like our competition you can say that company x,y,z also offers integration with ten
license plate systems out there, it’s true, absolutely that is correct. And what happens if they
release a new version, how about if the license plate company releases a new version, how about
if some of them go out of business? Those are problems that in the past were very difficult, now as
the market gets more mature they do not want to use ten different companies for a solution, they
prefer to purchase from one single manufacture so they know that when a new version comes out
it is a version of the system as a whole and not only the VMS or the licence plate recognition. So
that’s where the company is growing, we are providing solutions, we have verticals in which we are
very active, and a lot of local support, we have offices in Mexico, Costa Rica, Colombia, Chile,
Brazil, and the United States. We also have our own support and sales team, because selling
analytics is not like selling cameras or moving boxes, you need to go there you need to meet the
customer, you need to check the environment and make sure they have the proper lighting and
proper camera installation, and we help our partners do that.
We do not install, and we do not sell direct, but we do have a very solid sales team, and that’s how
you earn trust in the market in general. That’s where we are today: growing like hell. We do have a
lot of work to do, we need to provide a lot of training and education for our customers, but they
understand what is the most important thing of all that. Our guys, they have finally learned to say
no. For example, when it comes to facial recognition, the other day I saw on TV that you can place
a camera above Time Square and find the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted. But that’s not going to work,
that’s just for TV, there are in fact a lot of limitations, and our customers perceive that. Sometimes,
of course, our customers might turn around and say that they want to buy from somebody else, so
we are going to keep you as a customer, we are going to lose this project, and I can guarantee you
in six months they come back. And this happens, as 9 times out of ten they go and find someone
