• A transition
• A beginning

8. What I Know……
• The higher the level, the more difficult the transition
• We define ourselves in and through our work
• Financial prep does not equal emotional prep
• We have not invested in ourselves as we would a
business venture or project

9. What I learned…..

> Prepare
> Be Purposeful
> Find your Passion
> Start a Project

10. • The Project* is writing the next chapter
• You are the author and the project
manager
* A project is a planned undertaking, not something done by
whimsy, but completed as the result of a thoughtful process.

11. Projects must be resourced properly
to be successful
• You have the lead, but you aren’t in this alone
• Engage / enlist friends, family, colleagues
• Create a Council of Trusted Advisors
• Invest in professional support

12. Components of your project
plan will include:
• Financial
• Psychological
• Social
• Emotional
• Educational

13. Think of this as a journey of DISCOVERY

14. Your goal on this Journey...
• Discover what is in the Box?
• What are you passionate about?
• Can you define it in a word?
• In two or three?

15. Then you begin your EXPLORATORY phase

• How will you find the right path?
• Consulting, volunteering, teaching, new
paths, entrepreneurial roads….
• Go outside your comfort zone

• Connect the dots of your life’s experiences
• Build on what you know
• Draw upon the relationships you have built
• They are farther reaching than you think

• Write as you go
• Learn to live with flexibility and uncertainty
• Have fun with it
• Enjoy the rewards of strong life experiences

20. What else I have learned
• There are no wrong choices
• Move forward with less precision and more risk
• Be less pensive and more active
• The reservoir of experiences built is deeper and
more sustaining than you think

21. What I Miss
• The community
• The structure
• The familiarity
• The daily challenge
• BUT... I wouldn’t turn back!
