The Panhandle Groundwater Conservation District is responsible for conserving and preserving the local aquifer for long-term efficient use while respecting private property rights through non-discriminatory regulation. The district has a duty to conserve at least 50% of the current saturated thickness of the aquifer over the next 50 years to ensure future generations can make beneficial use of this important water resource.
