1. Helping Your Kids
with Homework!
Tips from the NYC childcare professionals at Penelope’s
People, a New York nanny agency
2. Intro
It’s no secret that kids don’t like doing
homework. However, homework is an important
part of a child’s education. As a parent, it’s
crucial to help your children with their work
outside of school. This slideshow has some tips
for homework that we’ve found helpful.
3. Create a Routine
●
●
Set aside a specific time each day for your children to do their homework.
If they get used to a routine, they’ll be less likely to argue about when to
start their homework.
When your children are doing their homework, use that time to do your
homework (for example, you could check and respond to emails or pay
some bills)
4. Don’t Go Overboard
●
●
While it’s good to help your children with their homework, it’s important to
let them do most of the work on their own. That’s the only way to make
sure that they’re learning!
If your children are struggling with their homework, don’t give them the
answers. Explain to them how they can find the answers (by looking
through their textbooks for example).
5. Enlist Help When Necessary!
●
●
If you’re not great at math, ask your spouse if they can help your child with
their math homework. If necessary, look into finding a tutor.
