This document summarizes updates from the Rio conventions on reporting of finance provided. It finds that 96% of expected reports were received in 2014. A total of $3.99 billion in financial commitments were reported for 3,992 activities, with 36% of weighted commitments from developed country parties supporting global activities. Most funds targeted Africa, Asia, and countries in need of Mediterranean support. The document also reviews progress on setting land degradation neutrality targets and improving synergies among Rio conventions in reporting and monitoring.

8. Reporting against performance and progress indicators
 Proposal to approval by COP12: Discontinuation of reporting against performance indicators, as
many targets on operational objectives have already been by the end of 2015. Data from
accredited global sources for a core set of progress indicators, to be complemented by ACPs.
Land degradation neutrality targets
 Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN) “is a state whereby the amount of healthy and productive land
resources, necessary to support ecosystem services, remains stable or increases within specified
temporal and spatial scales.”
 Subject to approval by COP12: It is planned that on the basis of the national estimates for the
progress indicators provided by the UNCCD, the affected country Parties will set national
voluntary targets for LDN within their NAPs.
Support of the reporting process
 The 2014-2015 reporting and review process has benefited from the support of a GEF-funded
Global Support Programme, implemented by UNEP and executed by the GM. The project’s
capacity building component significantly facilitated increased quantity and high quality of the
reports received. GEF and UNEP have indicated willingness to support the UNCCD in the next
reporting cycle.
Future data mining needs
 At the moment activities on preparation of data and systems for dynamic visualization of
information are on-going.
