2. Pacific Rim is a 2013 American science fiction monster film
directed by Guillermo del Toro, written by del Toro and
Travis Beacham, and starring Charlie Hunnam, Idris
Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, Robert Kazinsky, Max
Martini, and Ron Perlman. The film is set in the 2020s, when
Earth is at war with the Kaijus, colossal monsters which
have emerged from an interdimensional portal on the
bottom of the Pacific Ocean. To combat the
monsters, humanity unites to create the Jaegers:gigantic
humanoid mecha, each controlled by at least two
pilots, whose minds are joined by a neural bridge. Focusing
on the war's later days, the story follows Raleigh Becket, a
washed-up Jaeger pilot called out of retirement and teamed
with rookie pilot Mako Mori as part of a last-ditch effort to
defeat the Kaijus.

Japanese actress to be nominated for an Academy Award in 50 years, for the
2006 movie Babel. She also starred in Guillermo del Toro's 2013 science fiction
action film Pacific Rim

Mexican film director, screenwriter, producer, and novelist. In his filmmaking
career, del Toro has alternated between Spanish-language dark fantasy pieces, such
as The Devil's Backbone (2001) and Pan's Labyrinth (2006), and more mainstream
American action movies, such as Blade II (2002), Hellboy (2004), its sequel Hellboy II:
The Golden Army (2008), and Pacific Rim (2013).
In addition to his directing works, del Toro is a prolific producer, his producing works
including acclaimed and/or successful films such as The Orphanage (2007), Julia's
Eyes (2010), Biutiful (2010), Kung Fu Panda 2 (2011), Puss in Boots (2011), and Mama
(2013). He was originally chosen by Peter Jackson to direct The Hobbit films; he left
