3. To begin to understand what Web 3.0 might look like, we
first need to consider what Web 2.0 gave to us.
Web 2.0 provided us with the means to use websites on a
much more social and interactive level.
Web 3.0, therefore will be a significant change in how
websites are created, and how people use them. Exactly
how Web 3.0 will look, how it will be used and what
changes will happen remains to be seen.
That said, there are some things that can be thought of as
fairly certain scenarios.
About Web 3.0
4. Firstly, we could see the use of social
bookmarking as as search engine,
rather than relying on Google.
This would give more accurate results
as you would be seeing websites which
have been voted on by humans and so
your chances of finding a better and
more relevant website are increased.
Usage 1: Social bookmarking
5. The downside of this is that the results
could easily be manipulated by
humans who want to push a certain
website to the top of the results page.
If the artificial intelligence could
differentiate between the good and
the bad then it would give results
similar to that of social bookmarking.
Usage 2: Artificial Intelligence
6. Another possibility is the idea of a
'semantic' web, where all information has
been categorised so that not only humans
can understand it, but also a computer.
Some believe this would be another step in
the use of artificial intelligence.
The semantic web teaches the computer
what data it is looking at, artificial
intelligence would then be developed
which could teach the computer how to
use that data.
Usage 3: Semantic Web
7. With the popularity of online games such as
World of Warcraft and virtual worlds, some
people believe Web 3.0 might set out the
foundations for a virtual world with buildings
and areas for people to explore and find
others to interact with.
Very recently we saw the creation of a virtual
shopping mall, where visitors could walk into
different shops and see virtual products on
shelves.
It's not such a huge leap in the imagination to
see how that could be developed to a virtual
world
Usage 4: Virtual Games
8. Finally, because of the way we use
devices such as smart phones, Web 3.0
will have to incorporate changes which
allow internet access wherever we are.
It is thought that within the next 10
years, accessing the internet on our
mobile devices will be as popular as
sending a text message. The internet
will literally be at the end of our
fingertips wherever we go.
Usage 5: Internet Access
