Basically Athens and Sparta were
complete opposites. Athens was a
democracy and all about politics and
culture. Sparta was an oligarchy where its
people were bred to fight. The two citystates were always at each other’s
throats. So really, the Peloponnesian war
was bound to happen. The war completely
changed Greek life. It weakened the most
powerful city state, Athens and gave
Sparta superior power.
