Why Preservation Matters: A historical perspective on Architecture in Redlands Understanding our history is critical to progress. Architecture embodies our rich culture and history. When great buildings are removed or lost, our sense of place is changed irrevocably. If enough buildings are removed, a town loses its identity and soul. Our Heritage Our historical heritage is embodied within the buildings of Redlands. The high style of architecture proves that our founders and benefactors were cultivated, sophisticated and magnanimous. They were interested in creating an architecturally and culturally rich town. Following is a summary of some of our great buildings that are gone. Several were lost to fire, but most were intentionally demolished during the 1960’s and 1970’s modernist movement.
